Job Description

A young man in Hyattsville, Maryland is looking for a direct support staff person to assist him with community engagement, and independent living skills.
Responsibilities would include the following:
Support with creating a weekly and/or daily schedule of events, activities, and tasks Practicing and implementing a routine for household tasks such as hygiene, cleaning, laundry, and meals Prompting to communicate support needs Support with following through on expectations and completing tasks Prompting and encouragement to participate in planned activities The long term goals are for the employer to have increased independence and self-advocacy skills, improve communication skills and frequency, develop greater accountability for responsibilities, increase meaningful community involvement, and to build a sustainable support team that works together to promote long-term stability. The ideal candidates for this position value patience, consistency, community-based approaches, and strong boundaries. Other qualities include the ability to redirect using calm, clear communication, comfort with silence, and an understanding of natural consequences. Requirements for this position include the following: CPR and First Aid Certification from a course completed in-person Experience working with people with developmental disabilities Experience and/or training in behavioral support (preferred) No smoking Access to reliable transportation A valid driver's license Ability to pass a background check and drug test
