Day Program / Community Development Services (CDS) Position Summary New Beginnings Inc. is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and professional Bilingual Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide direct support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities participating in our Day Program/Community Development Services. Fluency in both English and Spanish is required for this position. This is not a preferred qualification. Applicants must be able to effectively communicate with participants in Spanish and communicate with staff, management, families, and other members of the participant's support team in English. The DSP is responsible for providing supervision, assistance, transportation, and individualized support to assigned participants while promoting independence, dignity, choice, community inclusion, personal growth, health, and safety. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Bilingual DSP will: Communicate effectively with assigned participants in Spanish to ensure they understand instructions, activities, choices, safety information, and other information related to their services. Communicate effectively in English with coworkers, supervisors, management, families, and members of the participant's support team. Provide direct supervision and support to participants throughout the Day Program and during community-based activities. Implement supports and goals identified in each participant's Person-Centered Plan (PCP) and other applicable individualized plans. Assist participants with developing and maintaining independent living, communication, socialization, community-integration, and daily living skills. Support participants with personal care and activities of daily living when required by the individual's needs. Provide appropriate physical and emotional support while promoting participant dignity, independence, choice, and self-advocacy. Participate in and assist with structured Day Program and community-based activities. Transport participants safely in accordance with New Beginnings policies and participant transportation requirements. Maintain appropriate supervision during transportation, community outings, activities, meals, and transitions. Observe participants for changes in behavior, physical condition, emotional status, or other health and safety concerns and report changes promptly. Follow applicable Behavior Support Plans, health and safety plans, nursing instructions, dietary requirements, and other participant-specific protocols. Complete required participant documentation accurately, thoroughly, and timely, including documentation in Therap and other required records. Document services, activities, progress toward goals, significant events, behavioral information, and other required participant information. Report incidents, injuries, suspected abuse/neglect, medication concerns, changes in condition, and other reportable events immediately in accordance with agency procedures. Maintain participant confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times. Follow New Beginnings Inc. policies and procedures and applicable Maryland DDA requirements. Perform other participant-support duties reasonably related to the DSP position. Medication Administration / CMT Requirement Current Maryland Certified Medication Technician (CMT) certification is preferred but is not required at the time of hire. Applicants who are not currently certified must be eligible and willing to obtain Maryland CMT certification within 90 days of employment as a condition of continued employment in this position. Once appropriately trained and certified, the employee may be responsible for medication administration and medication-related documentation in accordance with applicable requirements and New Beginnings policies.

Required Qualifications Applicants must:

Be bilingual and able to communicate fluently in both Spanish and English —

Be able to communicate directly and effectively with Spanish-speaking participants without relying on a translation application for routine participant communication. Possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record. Be able and willing to safely transport participants as required. Successfully complete required criminal background screening. Possess a high school diploma or GED. Be dependable and able to report to work consistently for the scheduled Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. shift . Be able to obtain CMT certification within 90 days if not currently certified. Complete all required New Beginnings and DDA-related orientation and training requirements within applicable timeframes. Demonstrate the ability to work professionally with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate appropriate professional boundaries. Be able to follow written and verbal instructions, individualized participant plans, and agency policies. Preferred Qualifications Current Maryland CMT certification is strongly preferred. Previous experience as a DSP, caregiver, personal support professional, CNA, CMT, or in a DDA-funded program is also preferred, as is experience supporting adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Depending on participant needs, duties may include prolonged standing or walking, assisting participants with mobility and personal care, accompanying participants in the community, and responding appropriately during emergencies.
