Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to empower individuals with diverse needs to live fulfilling and independent lives. In this vital role, you will provide personalized assistance, promote safety, and foster a supportive environment for residents in various care settings. Duties Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene to promote independence and dignity. Monitor patient health by observing vital signs, administering medications, and recording care plans in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Support residents during meal preparation, feeding, and nutrition management to ensure proper dietary needs are met. Utilize patient transfer methods including Hoyer lifts and manual handling techniques to safely assist with mobility and transfers. Conduct patient observation to identify changes in condition or behavior, especially for individuals with dementia, Alzheimer's, or neurodevelopmental disorders. Provide transportation assistance for appointments or community outings using safe client communication and personal transportation methods. Maintain a clean and safe environment through regular cleaning duties aligned with health standards and facility policies. Document all interactions accurately in compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA, ensuring confidentiality at all times. Collaborate with team members to develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to each resident's needs. Respond promptly to emergencies by applying first aid or CPR when necessary, ensuring resident safety at all times. Experience Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health environments is highly preferred. Demonstrated ability to provide patient care including medication administration, patient monitoring, and personal care assistance. Knowledge of dementia care, Alzheimer's support, memory care strategies, and hospice or palliative care practices. Familiarity with patient transfer methods such as Hoyer lifts and patient transfer techniques for heavy lifting situations. Experience working with individuals with autism or other neurodevelopmental disabilities enhances your ability to support diverse needs effectively. Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations related to client confidentiality and privacy standards in healthcare settings. Ability to perform light housekeeping tasks including cleaning and maintaining a safe environment for residents. Excellent communication skills for engaging effectively with clients, families, and team members about care plans and progress. Certification in first aid and CPR is required; additional certifications such as medication administration or manual handling are advantageous.
