VA 24112.

Mondays-Fridays 5:00pm-9:00pm; 2 Saturdays per month 2:30pm-8:30pm We presently have a DSP part-time position in Rocky Mount, VA. The individual is a male in his 40s with a primary diagnosis of Moderate Intellectual Disability and a secondary diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy. He is kind, independent, and health-conscious, and enjoys spending time outdoors when the weather permits. He is non-ambulatory and uses a motorized wheelchair to safely navigate his environment. He independently administers his medications and completes prescribed daily exercises. The DSP will provide individualized support as needed while promoting his independence, assisting with accessibility and daily needs, and monitoring his overall health and safety. The DSP responsibilities include but not limited to helping the individual practice safety awareness skills within the home and community while promoting independence, dignity, and quality of life. Ideal candidate should possess strong communication skills, reliability, patience, and a caring attitude toward individuals with developmental disabilities. Experience working with individuals with Intellectual Disabilities/Cerebral Palsy is preferred but not required for the right candidate who is willing to learn and provide compassionate care. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required. This position will be centered around implementing a carefully crafted care plan for the benefit of an individual. Our ideal candidate will provide in-home care and have reliable transportation to get and forth from job site as well provide transportation to community outings when needed. As part of the assigned care plan, you will assist with ADLs (activities of daily life) which may include: housekeeping, medication/medical appointment reminders, and setting appropriate boundaries as necessary. We seek a person who is gentle, mild-mannered, patient, and supportive. This position will have flexible hours that are centered around the needs of the individual assigned to your care. Comprehensive training (many of which lead to certification) will be provided.
Additional job duties/responsibilities:
  • Provide direct care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, dementia, or other special needs
  • Assist with activities of daily living (examples: bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting)
  • Administer medications according to prescribed schedules and document medication administration accurately (certification training provided)
  • Monitor and record vital signs as needed
  • Implement individualized care plans and follow specific instructions for each person assigned
  • Assist with meal planning, preparation, and feeding
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment
  • Promote company goals (dignity, independence, and positive outcomes).
  • Provide emotional support and companionship
Qualifications:
  • Individuals/Families Prefers Female Candidate
  • High school diploma or equivalent / Some college or mental health/de-escalation training preferred
  • Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, dementia, or other special needs preferred
  • Knowledge of medication administration procedures and techniques (training will be provided)
  • Familiarity with working in a residential care setting or similar environment
  • Ability to lift and transfer residents as needed
  • First aid and CPR certification preferred
