Insert Every Other Weekend or Every Third Weekend Position Summary Provide technical and clerical support to the laboratory professional staff by receiving and preparing specimens for examination/testing and performing maintenance/quality control procedures. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Under direct supervision:

Specimen Processing:

Unpack, register and accession surgical specimens in preparation for gross examination by the Pathologist or Pathologist Assistant. Assist with Cytology specimen processing, as needed.

Routine Maintenance:

Perform routine cleaning, maintenance and quality assurance procedures for department equipment, as assigned.

Supplies:

Place orders for supplies upon request from department staff. Initiate and maintain supply inventory for the autopsy, grossing and frozen section rooms at all locations.

Work Area:

Maintain work areas in an organized, neat and well-stocked manner conducive to a high level of efficiency. Initiate orders for supplies, as needed.

Assist Staff:

Assist other staff members when one's work is finished and support supervisor/manager in administering department activities when needed.

Workload:

Coordinate workload to achieve a high level of productivity and efficiency while demonstrating the ability to recognize, establish and deal with multiple priorities.

Minimal Supervision:

Perform duties and solve problems in an independent manner with minimal need for direct supervision. Assume responsibilities within the scope of delegated authority. Refer appropriately to procedures and policies, if uncertain.

Continuing Education:

Assume responsibility for own competency and continuing education by adhering to current laboratory policies.

Problems/Solutions:

Report all problems, concerns or situations to the supervisor/manager in a timely manner with suggestions for potential solutions or ideas.

Professional:

Consistently demonstrate the ability to handle difficult situations, remain calm, and demonstrate a professional manner at all times. As needed, assist with the orientation of new and temporary staff.

Policies and Procedures:

Conform to all hospital, laboratory and departmental policies and procedures.

Meetings:

Participate in department meetings. Review department meeting minutes in a timely manner, if absent. Provide requested feedback to supervisor/manager in a timely manner.

Mandatory Requirements:

Complete mandatory requirements by deadlines without need for reminders from supervisor/manager.

Computer Skills:

Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of computer functions within the scope of duties.

Email:

Checks email at least once each day, when scheduled to work. Responds in a timely manner to email requests. Uses email appropriately when communicating to others. Per diem staff are required to check email remotely at least once per week.

Personal Schedule:

Strive to adjust personal schedule to accommodate changing department needs and workload.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

Compensation Range:

$18.95 to $27.48
