Job Description Job Objective:
The Computer Information Science (CIS) Lab Assistant supports faculty and students within one or more CIS program areas by maintaining the college's laboratories and workshops. The incumbent's scope of work includes the installation, demonstration, maintenance and trouble-shooting of equipment and facilities. This is a hands-on role which will have the Lab Assistant working closely with faculty and students with the laboratory. The CIS Lab Assistant sets up the lab in preparation for experiments and practical activities. Main Responsibilities Provides timely technical support to faculty, staff and students. Maintains a schedule of preventative maintenance for all equipment and keeps adequate manuals and maintenance logs for equipment and parts. Observes and reinforces safety and housekeeping procedures and protocol within the lab. Maintains systems and procedures to track borrowed equipment and tools. Recommends solutions to continuously improve lab operations. Receives, installs and maintains lab equipment and supplies. Interacts regularly with suppliers regarding the purchases of new equipment. Demonstrates the use of equipment within the lab. Provides assistance to CIS Faculty during workshop and laboratory sessions. Contributes to the development of the HCT by observing and implementing college and system-wide policies and procedures, and by participating in extra-curricular activities and community events. Develops an awareness of and respect for the customs and cultures of HCT students and employees. Travels to other HCT colleges to attend meetings, workshops and conferences as required. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor Qualifications Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or other relevant with at least 3 years of relevant experience is required. A Master's Degree in a relevant discipline is preferred Current industry certifications such as Microsoft, Cisco, Security/Networking, Server, and/or Hardware certifications are preferred Experience Ability to understand the queries of customers and direct them to the appropriate resource Practical experience with PC and OS support troubleshooting and implementation - Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Experience with networking and Internet technologies, including wireless networks and WLAN security Computer literacy and ability to integrate technology in the workplace Strong verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated competency to interact with people at all levels of the organization Good customer service and organizational skills The ability to work effectively as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment The ability to cope with pressure in a positive manner while working to deadlines within a busy and demanding environment A demonstrated willingness to engage in professional development activities in order to improve current skills and acquire new skills, and to adapt to the evolving needs of the organization About Us HCT is the UAE's largest Applied Higher Education Institution, boasting a diverse, multinational workplace more than 2,200 staff and faculty members, educating over 25,000 students.
