8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday - Friday; may be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.

Jog Road, Building K, Delray Beach 35507 Palm Beach County's Water Utility Department seeks dedicated professionals to perform complex chemical, biological, bacteriological, and physical analyses of drinking water, wastewater, industrial waste, and environmental waters. An employee in this position utilizes sophisticated automatic analyzing instrumentation for organic, metals, wet chemistry, and nutrient analysis while exercising a high degree of independent judgment, skill, and initiative. Provides technical guidance to subordinate Laboratory Technicians; contributes to analytical procedures and ensures the accurate reporting of test results under the direct supervision of the assigned Senior Chemist and indirect guidance of the Laboratory Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires qualified applicants to possess one of the following: A Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or related field; minimum of two (2) years of experience in a chemical and bacteriological laboratory that includes six (6) months of experience in a certified drinking water or environmental laboratory in a water/wastewater utility, OR An unrelated Bachelor's Degree; minimum of three (3) years of experience in a chemical and bacteriological laboratory that includes six (6) months of experience in a certified drinking water or environmental laboratory in a water/wastewater utility, OR An Associate's Degree in Chemistry or related field; minimum of four (4) years of experience in a chemical and bacteriological laboratory that includes six (6) months of experience in a certified drinking water or environmental laboratory in a water/wastewater utility, OR An unrelated Associate's Degree; minimum of five (5) years of experience in a chemical and bacteriological laboratory that includes six (6) months of experience in a certified drinking water or environmental laboratory in a water/wastewater utility, OR Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of six (6) years of experience in a chemical and bacteriological laboratory that includes six (6) months of experience in a certified drinking water or environmental laboratory in a water/wastewater utility.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred qualifications include: Experience performing microbiological testing, Knowledge of microbiology techniques such as enzyme substrate and/or membrane filtration, Knowledge of working under the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference (NELAC) Institute (TNI) Standards and Good Laboratory Practices, Experience with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) methods for Nutrient Analysis such as Nitrate/Nitrite, Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN)/Ammonia, and/or Phosphorus, and Knowledge of Continuous Flow Injection Analysis (CFIA).
