The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in preparing and processing tissue specimens for microscopic examination. This position requires a strong understanding of pathology, anatomy, and laboratory procedures to ensure accurate results that contribute to patient care. Responsibilities Receives and verifies patient information on all paperwork & specimen containers for accuracy. Prints labeled tissue cassettes, update and edits LIS, and prepares specimens for send-out testing. Performs all technical aspects of grossing and dictating surgical specimens using a variety of laboratory materials and equipment as training allows. Maintains cassettes accuracy, slide filing, laboratory records, pathology equipment and logs. Communicates with pathologist, peers, internal and external clients. Assists management with orientation and training of new hire employees. Assists with supply ordering and inventory. Maintains cleanliness of gross room. Maintains supplies and overall cleanliness of gross room. Assists in the tissue processing area. Labels chemical waste containers and appropriately discard chemical waste in accordance with all local, state, and federal guidelines. Participates in Quality Assurance (QA) Reviews. Assists with laboratory accreditation inspection preparations. Must observe and follow all rules, requirements, and regulations. Requirements Knowledge of pathology, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is essential. Experience in specimen collection processing and clinical laboratory procedures is preferred. Proficiency in laboratory techniques related to grossing and histology is highly desirable.. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Excellent organizational skills and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively. A commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards in all aspects of work.
