Job Description

The Lab Assistant 2 is responsible for the pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens AND/OR for the procurement and preparation of laboratory specimens for testing. Performs routine tasks and tests under moderate supervision. Transcribe laboratory testing orders efficiently and accurately. Ensure specimens are properly identified, labeled, collected, and stored. General specimen processing. Distribute or track specimens to the appropriate areas of the laboratory for testing. Proficient knowledge of specimen collections from individuals of varying ages, diverse physical and mental disabilities, and different health conditions. Proficient in performing Point of Care Testing (POCT), if applicable to the site. Explain collection procedures and provide patient instructions to ensure accurate collection or preparation of specimens, facilitate patient and caregiver understanding, and reduce patient anxiety. Manage moderate patient complications and escalate patient concerns to leadership. Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids. Maintain a safe and clean working environment. May register patients or provide courier services. Perform other duties as assigned.
