Job Description

We have an opening for a 3rd shift Lab Technician In this role, the candidate will perform duties of Metallurgical Laboratory Testing and analysis on a variety of heat-treated parts, materials, production chemicals and atmospheres. Maintains Logs of analysis, communicates with managers on results of testing, ensures Lab facility is clean and organized, and alerts managers of out of tolerance conditions. Also maintains the Lab equipment in good working order and verifies it is within acceptable tolerances. Ensures Lab Supplies are stocked with appropriate inventory. 3rd shift position offer a shift premium.
Responsibilities include:
  • Promote safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous quality improvement in accordance with company policies.
  • Comply with all procedures as set forth in the Company Handbook.
  • Communicate effectively with the management team, employees and customers as required.
  • Assist to maintain Quality Accreditations as required by the company.
  • Work from Shop Orders, blue prints, specifications and special instructions.
  • Proficient in set-up, use and verification of calibration for all hardness testers and analyzers (Rockwell, Leco, Portable, Brinnell, Olympus, and Measurement Software like Clemex).
  • Ability to read microhardness indentations utilizing Lab equipment.
  • Properly identify product as conforming or non-conforming and approve or reject work.
  • Release product and move or have moved to designated area. Prepare sample bags and attach documents as required.
  • Understand Laboratory analysis of heat-treated product including hardness testing, microstructure analysis, case depths, as well as cutting and mounting test samples.
  • Perform Capability studies as required by customers or specifications.
  • Ensure all quality documents, certifications, logs and records are maintained efficiently.
  • Establish regular inventory of supplies, maintenance repairs and calibration requirements to ensure the Lab is well stocked with supplies and Lab equipment remains in good order.
  • Ensure quality testing accuracy and productivity are maintained.
  • Promotes a customer service attitude within the organization.
  • Assists with training other Lab Techs for improvement in technical and other employee skills.
  • Maintain and sustain team-oriented culture.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as apparent and/or assigned.
Skills, Abilities, Experience:
Manufacturing Environment:
Work area temperatures frequently above 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer and below 50 degrees Fahrenheit in winter. Must be able to communicate (read, write, speak, and comprehend) English, (Bilingual, English/Spanish) a plus. General Math Skills required. General computer skills. Must have ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; use common sense and be able to make informed decisions. Be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision and have excellent time management skills. Have the ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Experience in the metal manufacturing industry a plus. 1-3 years of work experience working as a lab technician in Quality Control . We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
