Astbury maintains an entrepreneurial business philosophy dedicated to serving the market's needs. Job Description Astbury is seeking a laboratory technician for our Northwest Regional Laboratory. This position will primarily involve the testing of drinking water and wastewater samples. More specifically, this job entails: learning and following Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs); cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment; maintaining necessary documentation for Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC); preparing and maintaining records and computer files; and working to ensure a safe work environment at all times. Candidates must be reliable and organized with a strong work ethic.
Responsibilities include:
  • Working with lab personnel to complete daily analytical testing workload
  • Serving as primary quality control for other laboratory technicians
  • Maintaining records and entering results in LIMS
  • Maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies and reordering as needed.
  • Serving as office/administrative support for field staff Skills and Certification A general laboratory background is preferred.
Candidates must be able to do the following: Learn to effectively operate all equipment, including but not limited to, analytical balances, incubators, desiccators, and ISE probes. Properly handle and use pipettes, glassware, and chemicals Practice laboratory safety In addition to these various skills, candidates must be reliable and flexible. Astbury performs a wide array of services that often requires laboratory staff to find new and innovative ways to solve issues that may arise. A candidate that is willing to learn a wide range of different tasks is preferred. Proficiency Requirements The successful candidate for this position will have 90 days to be proficient in the required areas. Education A high school diploma is required; special preference is given to candidates that possess a Biology, Chemistry, or other science related college degree. Compensation This position is considered entry-level, though experienced candidates are encouraged to apply. Pay will most likely be hourly and is based on past experience and education.
