JOB DESCRIPTION
The work we have temps doing is stripped-down parts of our overall process - checking in couriers, unbagging, bar coding, moving samples around the lab (running), loading samples into analyzers, adding samples into centrifuges, swirling samples with a liquid chemical, pulling samples from our refrigerated storage area. For onsite visits, the candidates must have their legs fully covered, no skin showing even at the ankles.
Profiles we prefer to see:
For third shift: Has experience working overnights, ideally recent experience but certainly an understanding of what it takes to acclimate The ideal candidate for us has experience of working in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment. For someone with human lab experience, that means working in a high-volume environment like a LabCorp or Quest. Processors or Accessioners or phlebotomists from those companies or a big high volume hospital work well for us. For someone with Vet Tech or Vet Assisting experience, if they also worked recently at an Amazon or Fed Ex or some other fulfillment position, or perhaps in food service that can be helpful - they can be a great fit, but our production-based work can at times be too fast for them if they are not from a big clinic.
What you will do:
Performs laboratory testing of patient samples across multiple platforms that require a strong level of technical ability, including proper pipetting technique Performs laboratory testing of various pet assay and other animal illnesses, injuries and diseases Processes a variety of samples, such as whole blood, serum, urine, plasma, and fecal from veterinary clinics and Client Reference Labs Aliquots or sorts biological samples Maintains sample tracking database or inventory Keeps accurate and up to date records (electronic lab notebook, SmartSheet, SharePoint, Box) Uses Microsoft Office Suite Collects data Prepares reagents (examples include making dilutions and solution preparation) Maintains and communicates schedules and changes in schedules Manages lab inventory and orders supplies Performs for lab maintenance which includes instruments, equipment, and general cleaning Performs instrument calibration and QC Potential to handle sterile or biohazardous materials Highly recommend Hep B vaccine to access certain labs. Selected candidates must sign a Hepatitis B Vaccine Form Acknowledgment (see attached), confirming their awareness of potential exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials and the associated risk of acquiring hepatitis B.
What you need to succeed:
High School degree with 0-3 years of experience or science related associates degree with no experience Vet technicians are encouraged to apply Ability to properly pipette is preferred Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, standard operating procedures (SOPs), material safety data sheets (MSDSs), operating and maintenance instructions, instrument and software manuals, government rules and technical procedures Good computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite preferred, Strong Excel skills required Ability to prioritize and multi-task Strong initiative and follow through as well as self-motivation Attention to detail Strong verbal and written communication skills in order to collaborate across the organization working with different scientists Must be reliable attendance is an essential function of the position Ability to work independently and as a team contributor Willingness to learn new skills
