This role is critical in driving innovation and maintaining the technical excellence of NCP Coatings' product lines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Formulation Support & Testing:
Prepare samples and mix raw materials to develop new coating formulations and modify existing products to meet specific customer requirements. Conduct performance testing using industry-standard methods (e.g., ASTM, ISO) to evaluate properties such as adhesion, hardness, chemical resistance, and environmental durability.
Safety & Compliance:
Safely handle and dispose of hazardous chemicals and materials in compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators. Participate in regular safety training and ensure adherence to all safety guidelines in the lab environment.
Data Management & Reporting:
Collect, analyze, and document test data with precision, providing clear and detailed reports to chemists and R D management. Utilize laboratory information management systems to log and track samples, formulations, and test results.
Lab Operations & Maintenance:
Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments to ensure accurate and reliable test results, following manufacturer specifications and internal SOPs. Assist in maintaining inventory of lab supplies and raw materials, ensuring that all necessary items are available for ongoing projects. Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to optimize lab processes and increase efficiency.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with R D chemists, production teams, and quality control to ensure seamless transfer of new formulations from the lab to production. Participate in cross-functional meetings to discuss project progress, troubleshoot issues, and align on product development goals.
Technical Proficiency:
Demonstrate proficiency in using MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) for data entry, report writing, and communication. Develop a solid understanding of coatings chemistry, including the role of various raw materials in achieving desired coating properties. Qualifications /
Skills Education:
Associate degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related science field preferred or High school diploma with 2-3 years of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably within the coatings or chemical industry.
Experience:
2-3 years of hands-on experience in a coatings or chemical lab environment, with familiarity in formulation and testing procedures. Prior experience with testing and analysis techniques specific to coatings, such as viscosity measurement, color matching, and accelerated weathering tests, is highly desirable.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and handle materials up to 50 pounds. Comfortable working in a lab environment with exposure to chemicals and industrial materials.
