Job Description

Essentia Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician or Scientist to perform accurate, timely diagnostic testing that supports high-quality, patient-centered care. In this role, you will collect and process specimens, perform hematology, chemistry, and microbiology testing, and validate results using established quality control procedures. You will collaborate with nurses, providers, and other lab professionals while maintaining CLIA and CAP compliance. Responsibilities Perform accurate and timely diagnostic laboratory testing across multiple disciplines (e.g., hematology, chemistry, microbiology) Collect, label, and process patient specimens following established protocols and safety standards Analyze and validate test results, identifying and resolving discrepancies or instrument issues Perform and document quality control procedures and maintain equipment according to regulatory standards Collaborate with providers, nurses, and other team members to support patient-centered care and timely clinical decisions Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and Essentia Health policies and procedures Document results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality Participate in continuing education, competency assessments, and process improvement initiatives within the lab Required Skills Clinical laboratory testing Specimen collection and processing Hematology Chemistry analyzers Microbiology techniques Quality control and assurance Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) Phlebotomy Regulatory compliance (CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission) Infection control and safety procedures
