JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT
Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Water Lab Technician independently performs analytical tasks and provides technical assistance to treatment operators performing such tasks to maintain water treatment plant production that achieves the required water quality standards. This position is responsible for following overall lab policies, procedures, and capabilities. This position provides technical training and assistance to others as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND TASKS
The following list of functions, duties, and tasks is typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform other closely related or department-specific functions, duties, and tasks from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. Performs chemical, physical, and microbiological analysis of raw and treated water, and related byproducts to monitor and control treatment plant operations and the quality of potable water. Operates laboratory instruments and related equipment used to analyze compounds and elements in water, sludge, and other matrices as required. Performs calibrations on laboratory instrumentation and documents such work using the asset management system.

Assists with special analytical studies related to source control, process control, or other aspects related to water quality standards or analytical procedures. Performs quality control/ quality assurance testing by prescribed methods to ensure the quality of laboratory data. Compiles and records laboratory data using manual and computer-based data management systems. Performs mathematical calculations and statistical analyses for test results, using both manual and computer-based methods. Monitors supply of consumables, glassware, and reagents; tracks purchases; receives inventory; and ensures quality of supplies upon receipt. Maintains various reports, worksheets, plans, correspondence, graphs, and work orders; enters data in systems; reviews documents and data input for accuracy and integrity. Manages records and information in any format, in accordance with applicable statutes, regulations, and city policy, guidance, and records retention schedule.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or a related field; and one year of experience in an analytical or environmental laboratory where the major portion of the workload involved the analysis of drinking water; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid, current Driver's License and safe driving record First Aid and CPR Certification

Medium Work:
