10 Weeks (or per contract)
Schedule:
3 - 12 hour Day shifts, Fri-Sun 05:00-17:30 | Weekends, Holidays, and Call May Be Required Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) / Medical Technologist (MT) Position Summary The Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist performs laboratory testing, quality assurance procedures, specimen analysis, instrument maintenance, and patient phlebotomy with minimal supervision. The role requires independent decision-making, attention to detail, and the ability to provide accurate and timely diagnostic results in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Required Education Required Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology OR Associate Degree with prerequisite laboratory coursework and clinical training Alternate Route Candidates meeting alternate education and training requirements established by ASCP or NCA may be considered in lieu of an Associate Degree. Required Certifications ASCP Certification OR NCA Certification Experience & Skills Required Candidates must have experience with: Clinical Laboratory Testing Laboratory Instrumentation Quality Control Procedures Proficiency Testing Patient Phlebotomy Specimen Collection and Processing Laboratory Documentation Computerized Laboratory Systems Troubleshooting Laboratory Equipment Operating Standard Office Equipment Working Independently in a Fast-Paced Environment Key Responsibilities Laboratory Testing & Quality Assurance Perform laboratory analyses independently Verify specimen integrity before testing Interpret and evaluate test results Follow established laboratory procedures and quality standards Perform quality control and proficiency testing Ensure accurate, timely, and clinically useful results Assist with validation and implementation of new testing methodologies Support CAP inspections and laboratory accreditation activities Maintain laboratory procedure and policy manuals Instrument Operation & Maintenance Operate laboratory analyzers and equipment Perform routine quality control checks Conduct preventive maintenance Troubleshoot instrumentation issues Document maintenance and corrective actions Understand instrument theory and functionality Escalate issues appropriately when needed Information Management Utilize Cerner/STAR systems according to policy Order, receive, review, verify, and cancel laboratory tests as appropriate Monitor pending worklists and follow up on outstanding testing Ensure complete and accurate documentation Maintain strict patient confidentiality Communication & Customer Service Communicate effectively with: Physicians Nurses Laboratory Staff Pathologists Patients Other Healthcare Departments Answer laboratory phone calls professionally Provide accurate information and support Maintain positive working relationships throughout the organization Compliance & Safety Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies Follow safety and infection-control standards Maintain regulatory compliance Participate in required education and competency programs Support departmental performance improvement initiatives Report safety concerns promptly Technical Competencies Candidates should possess: Strong laboratory analytical skills Ability to prioritize workload effectively Sound clinical judgment under pressure Knowledge of laboratory regulations and quality standards Ability to work accurately under time constraints Strong computer and documentation skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Equipment & Systems Experience Laboratory Systems Cerner STAR General Equipment Laboratory Analyzers Phlebotomy Equipment Standard Office Equipment Computers Telephones Fax Machines Physical Requirements This position requires: Frequent standing, walking, and sitting Frequent bending and stooping Frequent reaching and repetitive hand movements Eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity Lifting and moving up to 50 lbs as needed Normal or corrected vision and hearing Ability to distinguish colors accurately for laboratory testing and specimen collection Work Environment Candidates must be comfortable working in: Fast-paced laboratory settings High-volume patient care environments Stressful and time-sensitive situations Areas with frequent interruptions and changing priorities Potential Exposures Blood and body fluids Tissue specimens Infectious materials Biohazardous substances Toxic chemicals Communicable diseases Appropriate PPE and safety procedures are provided and required.
