Position Description Summary/Purpose :
The Practical Nursing Student Support Advisor member promotes access, successful entry, persistence and completion for PN students. The position provides student-centered navigation from initial application through enrollment and program progression, offers limited advising within established policies, and connects students with the appropriate academic and University resources.
Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities :

Respond to prospective-student questions and explain PN application steps, deadlines, prerequisite documentation and next actions. Assist applicants with completing application requirements and monitor outstanding items without making admission decisions. Support newly admitted students through onboarding, orientation, technology access, required forms, compliance activities and readiness checklists. Provide limited advising on program processes, schedules, registration steps, available resources and published policies; refer academic decisions to the appropriate academic leader. Maintain regular outreach with students at key transition points and follow up with students who miss required activities or show signs of disengagement. Help students develop practical success plans addressing time management, study routines, attendance, communication and use of academic-support services. Connect students with tutoring, counseling, accessibility services, financial aid, emergency resources and other University supports. Document contacts, referrals, onboarding progress and follow-up actions in approved systems while maintaining confidentiality. Support PN retention activities, student-success workshops, information sessions, orientations and program events Provide aggregate information on recurring student barriers and emerging needs to PN leadership for continuous improvement.
Scope:
Does not independently approve admission, progression, readmission, course substitutions, grade changes or policy exceptions. Escalates academic-risk, safety, conduct, discrimination, accommodation, financial or personal concerns to the appropriate office or leader. Uses only approved program information and protects student records in accordance with FERPA and University policy. Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.
Other Functions :
Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation permits. Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends. Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

Qualifications Minimum Required Qualifications :
Associate degree required; bachelor's degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in student services, advising, admissions, education, healthcare education or a related service environment preferred.
