A Licensed Practical Nurse or Vocational Nurse provides basic medical care under the direction of registered nurses and other healthcare specialists. The tasks that they are permitted to perform vary by state, but usually include changing bandages, checking blood pressure, or helping feed patients. May work in hospitals, nursing homes, or other healthcare facilities.
Under general supervision, provides general direct nursing care to injured, ill, convalescent or disabled individuals. Care includes providing medical treatments, administering medication and giving injections.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform nursing functions and healthcare services including, but not limited to performing and documenting medical and psychological nursing assessments, providing treatment to, and educating clients. ? Responsible for performing assessments on the individuals daily and as needed related to changes in behavior/symptoms and notifying appropriate staff of changes in behavior/symptoms. ? Responsible for completing required documentation for services rendered by utilizing the recognizable and acceptable documentation formats for nursing assessments, ensuring that documentation reflects the individual's treatment goals and objectives. ? Responsible for performing a chart check/chart review once a shift; ensuring that Provider's orders are accurately transcribed on the M.A.R. and in Essentia. ? Responsible for ensuring proper documentation on the M.A.R. when administering medications per policy, while ensuring that the eight rights are being performed. ? Responsible for ensuring that all medication errors are well documented and passed on the RN. ? Responsible for relaying needed information to psychiatric staff, reporting sudden/new changes in individual's behavior to appropriate psychiatric staff; communicate pertinent information to the RN for continuity of care. ? Responsible for supervising Mental Health Techs and ensuring that they are monitoring and interacting with the individuals in an appropriate manner. ? Responsible for collecting blood and other laboratory specimens and waived testing, ensuring that lab logs are maintained and that lab draws/waived testing/results are documented correctly in the EHR. ? Responsible for assisting RN in CSC with assessing and triaging individuals presenting to the Crisis Service Center when Navigation staff is unavailable or as needed. ? Other assigned duties as directed. Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor. Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
Competencies:
? Able to competently perform waived testing and other laboratory testing, including but not limited to urine drug screens, urinalysis, and phlebotomy. ? Able to administer medications and other therapeutic treatments to individuals while maintaining proper use of documentation in EHR and MAR. ? Able to access and competently use email, EHR and other basic computer programs needed to complete daily tasks. ? Able to communicate with individuals, providers, staff, family/visitors and vendors in a professional manner in a team-oriented facility. Education and/or
Work Experience Requirements:
Vocational / Technical degree from an accredited college AND current Georgia license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse AND six months of nursing experience.
