Job Description

Position Summary Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Position Accountabilities Administers and controls narcotics and medications. Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel. Prepares, hangs, monitors and discontinues I.V. fluids. Provides direct patient care from infancy through geriatrics, evaluates outcome, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care. Provides appropriate, direct patient care in assigned areas. Performs basic nursing procedures including thermal applications, non-sterile soaks, application of simple dressings, perennial care, and urine tests. Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards. Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care. Admits patients and arranges emergency operations and other services. Ensures accurate maintenance of patient's medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information. Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations, interdepartmental objectives, and infection control policies. Demonstrates sensitivity to patient's comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress. Monitors emotional stability of patients and reports changes to physician or charge nurse. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops. Provides health care instruction to patient and family members. Assists with patient discharge planning. Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment Attends meetings as required.
