JOB SUMMARY
The substitute school nurse (LPN) provides support division wide daily by providing a variety of health care services to students, staff and communication with parents of students.
REQUISITE EDUCATION AND SKILLS
Completion of a program in an accredited school of nursing, Possession of a valid license as a licensed practical nurse (LPN), Previous experience in a health care setting desired, Knowledge of nursing practices and methods and ability to administer medications, Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents and staff, Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
(including but not limited to the following) Complies with all school laws, State Board of Education regulations, and all policies and regulations made by the School Board and Superintendent. Performs all duties deemed necessary by the School Board and Superintendent for the efficient and successful operation of the school system. Performs nursing care and screening to students in accordance with State Law and established policies and procedures, Administers medications in accordance with physician's orders, inspects for head lice, and administers first-aid, Maintains record of treatment and performs follow-up tasks, Documents and maintains log of clinic visits, care given and student health records, Collaborates with school administration regarding any health concerns, Makes observations and assesses condition of each student examined, After observation and assessment, counsels with student, parents and/or administration about problems observed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with other staff and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions will be required.
