About Spring Lake Ranch Spring Lake Ranch (SLR) is a unique therapeutic community and working farm, providing a supportive environment for adults with mental health challenges and co-occurring addiction issues. Located in the Green Mountains of Vermont, SLR has been in operation since 1932 and is entering a dynamic period of growth supported by donors, alumni families, and passionate staff. We recently opened our new Transitional Living Program. SLR provides residential treatment for up to 45 adults. Approximately 70 percent of residents experience psychotic spectrum disorders, and the remaining population presents with mood, anxiety, OCD, or personality disorders. Many residents also have histories of cannabis or other substance use, often complicating psychiatric symptoms. Residents average 27 years old with a typical stay of 6-12 months. Position Overview The Med Room Assistant is responsible for supporting the safe and organized management of residents' medications and medical-related needs. This position works closely with RN, medical providers, pharmacies, laboratories, and other healthcare professionals to ensure medications, orders, referrals, appointments, and medical records are accurate, current, and completed in a timely manner. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable working in a therapeutic residential care environment. Responsibilities Assist with medication administration and passing medications to residents in accordance with facility policies, physician orders, and applicable state regulations. Review medication orders and ensure changes are accurately reflected in residents' medication records. Communicate medication changes, discrepancies, missed doses, and concerns to the appropriate nursing or supervisory staff.
• Monitor medication supplies and maintain an organized, secure medication room. Track medication stock and notify appropriate staff when medications or supplies need to be reordered. Audit medication refills to ensure prescriptions are renewed and available before medications run out. Communicate with pharmacies regarding refills, medication changes, deliveries, and discrepancies. Monitor expiration dates and medication quantities as required by facility policy. Receive, process, and update physician and healthcare provider orders. Ensure new, discontinued, or changed orders are accurately documented and communicated to appropriate staff. Maintain organized and up-to-date medical and medication documentation. Coordinate referrals to specialists, diagnostic services, and other healthcare providers. Schedule and confirm medical, dental, specialist, laboratory, and other healthcare appointments for residents. Arrange transportation and communicate appointment details to residents and appropriate staff. Track upcoming appointments and ensure required paperwork, orders, and records are available. Follow up on referrals and appointments to ensure recommendations and next steps are communicated and scanned to chart. Process laboratory orders and coordinate with providers and laboratory services. Schedule or coordinate lab draws as needed. Ensure laboratory orders are complete and properly documented. Track pending laboratory results and route results to the appropriate nurse or healthcare provider for review and follow-up. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Demonstrated strong dependability and punctuality. Previous experience in a mental health environment, healthcare, medication management, medical assisting, or a related field preferred. Proven excellent attention to detail and accuracy required. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively and professionally. Ability to meet deadlines. Basic computer skills and ability to learn electronic medication and medical-record systems. BLS Certified (first aid, CPR and AED) or willing to be. Must possess clinical, organizational, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to seek out appropriate resources to solve problems effectively. Demonstrates flexibility. Ability to carry out assigned duties with minimal direct supervision. Must have a drivers' license with a good driving record. Must communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must be able to function effectively in a professional team environment. Additional Expectations Communicate professionally with residents, families, pharmacies, physicians, nurses, laboratories, specialists, and other healthcare providers. Maintain resident confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and facility privacy policies. Participate as a member of the residential care team and assist with other medical-office or administrative duties as needed. Ability and willingness to negotiate scope and expectations in good faith as program needs evolve. Commitment to SLR's therapeutic community model and collaborative approach. Strong professional boundaries and a recovery-oriented treatment philosophy. Participate in the SLR holiday rotation (Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year's) to provide a celebratory experience for our residents.
