Full-Time Position Summary The Front Office Medical Assistant serves as the first point of contact for patients and is responsible for front desk operations as well as basic clinical support. This role requires fluency in both Mandarin Chinese and English . The medical assistant ensures a welcoming, efficient, and professional environment while supporting both administrative and clinical workflows. Language Requirement
- Fluency in Mandarin Chinese is required — ability to speak, read, and write
- Must be able to interpret and translate verbally between Mandarin and English for patients, families, and clinical staff.
- Ability to translate written patient materials, instructions, and forms between Mandarin and English is strongly preferred.
- Candidates who do not meet the Mandarin fluency requirement will not be considered for this position. Front Office / Administrative Responsibilities
- Greet and check in patients in a courteous and professional manner.
- Answer and triage incoming phone calls; schedule, reschedule, and confirm appointments.
- Verify patient demographics and insurance eligibility; collect copays and outstanding balances.
- Maintain and update electronic health records (EHR) and patient registration data.
- Manage patient flow and communicate wait times to patients and providers.
- Scan, file, and organize medical records, referrals, and correspondence.
- Handle incoming and outgoing faxes, mail, and electronic communications.
- Coordinate referrals, prior authorizations, and diagnostic test scheduling.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times. Clinical Support Responsibilities (as assigned)
- Room patients and record chief complaint, vital signs, and relevant history.
- Prepare and stock exam rooms; ensure cleanliness and readiness.
- Assist providers with examinations and procedures as needed.
- Perform basic point-of-care tasks within scope (e.g., vital signs)
- Provide patient education and discharge instructions in Mandarin and English.
- Document clinical information accurately in the EHR.
- Adhere to infection control and safety protocols.
Qualifications Required:
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program OR equivalent relevant experience.
- Bilingual fluency in Mandarin and English (verbal and written).
- Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with EHR systems.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Current BLS/CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
Preferred:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential.
- Prior front office experience in an outpatient or ambulatory setting.
- Familiarity with insurance verification and medical billing concepts.
- Experience serving a Mandarin-speaking patient community. Key Competencies
