The College of Medicine has an opening for an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor faculty member, a renewable non-tenured position, responsible for the medical education in pre-clerkship translational educational programs. CNUCOM has developed an innovative medical education program with vertical and horizontal integration. You will be joining a team of highly committed faculty responsible for the development, design, and implementation of all components of the medical education program using Course Learning Objectives (CLO's) and College of Medicine adopted Educational Program Objectives (EPO's). To ensure faculty success, professional development opportunities are available in pedagogy through the Institute of Teaching & Learning and scholarly research. The responsibilities for this position will include all of the following: serving the academic mission of the Department in teaching medical students, performing scholarly activities, and providing institutional service. In addition, other responsibilities may include student advising. Obligations of the
Assistant/Associate/Full Professor:
The information provided below is a general description of the Assistant/Associate Professor's responsibilities; it is not intended to provide an all-inclusive list of responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the Co-Course Director for the Hematology systems-based didactic course.
  • Develop and implement curriculum topics for an integrated medical program
  • When applicable, design a progressive format of medical science presentations, framed within the clinical context of the integrated curriculum
  • Collaborate with basic and clinical science educators to coordinate the integration, horizontally and vertically, of basic sciences within organ/system-based courses
  • When applicable, implement and/or support appropriate laboratory experiences for medical students in an integrated curriculum
  • Teach M1-M2 year medical students as assigned and supported by department chair
  • Support student remediation planning and activities
  • Design/deliver outstanding student experience, attending to all curriculum matters, as well as maintaining a learning environment that promotes mutual respect and professional behavior on the part of faculty, staff and students
  • When applicable, provide course schedules, syllabi, curricular mapping data and other information for educational database
  • Work with the Dean and Accreditation team in all aspects of functions and activities including, but not limited to gathering & presenting data relevant to demonstration of compliance with accreditation standards
  • Collate student and faculty research activities (in which you participate), publications, grants, and other research activities relevant to demonstrate student & faculty research of the accreditation standards
  • May support the delivery of the Colloquium Course by serving as a College Mentor (student mentor, academic advisor and role model), and supervise the academic progress of an assigned group of students throughout their medical program (as assigned by the department chair)
  • Support student career advising and student medical specialty interest groups by advising in your field of expertise
  • Participate in variable scholarship activities, including supporting SDSSP and judging
  • Participate in faculty development programs
  • Serve on departmental and institutional committees
Qualifications:
o Terminal degree (MD, MD/PhD) with Board Certification in the respective clinical specialty and/or a sub-specialty o Documented accomplishments as a clinician and clinician-educator o Experience and documented accomplishments in teaching medical students o Ability to work effectively in an inter-disciplinary environment Qualities o Exceptional interpersonal communication skills o Ability to lead collaborative inter-organizational programs o Knowledge about design of adult learning and active learning educational experiences o Commitment to professional excellence and innovation in medical education
Preferences:
  • Applicants with experience in teaching pathology, hematology and small group clinically cased-based learning preferred
  • Applicants with experience in teaching in an
