Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Certified Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team working with the United States Coast Guard at Humboldt Bay. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional patient care across various medical settings, including outpatient clinics, hospital medicine, urgent care, and emergency departments. This role involves supporting physicians and healthcare professionals with clinical and administrative tasks to ensure smooth patient flow and high-quality service. Candidates with experience in dermatology, geriatrics, internal medicine, or trauma centers will find this position especially fitting. The Certified Medical Assistant will play a vital role in delivering comprehensive patient care while maintaining compliance with medical standards and procedures. Responsibilities Assist with patient intake, including collecting medical histories and documenting symptoms Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature Prepare patients for examinations and procedures in outpatient, inpatient, or emergency settings Support physicians with medication administration and basic life support when necessary Document patient information accurately using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and ICD coding Perform basic clinical tasks such as specimen collection, dressing changes, and X-ray assistance Support hospital medicine teams, including Level I and Level II trauma centers, PICU, or surgical units as needed Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment adhering to safety protocols Provide patient service by addressing questions and ensuring comfort during visits Assist with medical procedures in various specialties such as dermatology, internal medicine, or emergency medicine Qualifications A. A certificate or Associate degree as a CMA/MA from a state accredited program and 12 months experience with in the preceding 36 months, or, B. Certification from a military medical assistant (i.e. Health Service Technician, Hospital Corpsman) ''A'' school and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months, or, C. 36 months experience within the preceding 60 months as a medical assistant in a private practice and completed the requirements for certification. The National Commission for Certifying Agencies, part of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence, accredits four certifications for medical assistants: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from the Expected hours: 40.0 per week
