Job Description

Job Summary:
A Medical Assistant is the direct link of clinical care between the physician and the patient. They assist physicians with examinations and treatments while instructing and assisting patients during their peri-surgical care.
Job Responsibilities:
Be the Practice Ambassador by representing the physicians and office with confidence, enthusiasm, professionalism, and authenticity. Articulate surgeon and office accolades. Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills by anticipating the patient's needs. Must be able to adjust tone and style to mirror the patient's personality and establish rapport. Meet patients where they are. Room patients, take vital signs, make patients feel at-ease. Respond to patient questions quickly and accurately, whether in-person, email, text or over the phone. Able to schedule patient appointments. Handle pharmacy interactions, including online prescribing. Assess patient status, both physical and emotional. Identify areas of concern and notify physician appropriately. Be knowledgeable about plastic surgery procedures, contraindications, and recovery. Ask physician if more guidance is needed. Understand special circumstances, such as need for medical clearances, cessation of smoking, necessary labs, BMI guidelines. Work closely with patient to clear hurdles. Understand surgeon-specific preferences regarding procedures, including clearances, perioperative instructions, equipment needs, etc. Able to do wound care, dressing care, handle lab specimens, suture removal, drain removal, perform lab testing and other minor procedures. Order appropriate preop labs/tests and follow through until results obtained. Knowledgeable about and order needed supplies and equipment for surgery. Ensure that each surgery is prepared for with plenty of time in advance. Assist physician with in-office procedures. Know what supplies and set-up are required for each. Communicate effectively with patient regarding preop information, including perioperative care. Communicate with surgery center personnel about any special patient circumstances, equipment needs and anything else that will help deliver a smoother perioperative flow. Clean and stock exam rooms. Able to autoclave instruments. Exhibits sterile technique when performing tests and assisting physician. Be an effective conduit of information between physician, surgery center and patient. Work closely with other team members so that patient needs are always met. Be willing to help out whenever needed. Demonstrate respect for the cultural and social differences that exist among people. Use effective conflict resolution techniques. Maintain strict patient confidentiality, according to HIPAA and office policies.
Education:
Minimum:
high school graduation diploma. Certificate of graduation from a Medical Assistant program or equivalent on-the-job training.
Complexity of Work:
Requires strong emotional intelligence, critical thinking skills, good judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment, multi-task, and be able to deal with challenging personality types. Ability to maintain courteous and cooperative relations with patients, their families, staff members and physicians. Must be able to accommodate the variability of the office schedule and length of workday. May involve working after usual business hours and on weekends. Must be able to work at different AIPS/Lux locations (e.g., Temecula, Redlands), as requested by management.
Pay:
$20.00 - $23.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
