ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

Welcomes patients by greeting them, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries. Prepares patients for the health care visit by accompanying them to the exam room, and arranging the exam room instruments, supplies, and equipment. Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment. Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results. Supports patient care delivery by assisting providers during examinations; collecting/preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments; administering medications on the premises; authorizing drug refills as directed; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies; drawing blood; changing dressings; and other tasks as directed by the attending provider. Keeps supplies ready by taking inventory of stock and alerting supervisor of needed materials. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential. Serves and protects the physician or health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards. Enhances health care practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Participates as an active team member in the surgical team (please see corresponding responsibilities description if applicable). Maintain professional appearance and rapport with patients and staff. Other tasks as assigned by a supervisor or provider. Rheumatology Experience preferred, not required.

EXPERIENCE

1-2 years of professional experience in a clinical setting is preferred..

SKILLS:

1. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and quality control skills. 2.. Ability to use various types of equipment for examination and treatment procedures. 3. Ability to take and record vital signs, and professionally present patient to provider. 4. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing. 5. Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance. 6. Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with providers, management, and peers. 8. Athena experience preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

Hearing:

Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone. Able to use stethoscope and respond to verbal questions.

Speaking:

Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.

Vision:

Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient and reading information from printed sources and computer screens.

Other:

Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when required. Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service, including injections. Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.
