Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our Clinical/Medical team. In this role, you will work alongside our Registered Nurse (RN) and healthcare providers to meet the medical needs of our clients. While the RN maintains primary responsibility for clinical assessments and nursing judgment, you will provide vital operational backup, delegated clinical execution, and administrative support. From client intake and vitals to specimen collection and pharmacy coordination, your role is essential to our daily operations and client care.
Key Responsibilities Client Intake & Vitals:
Orient new clients to medical services; obtain and document initial health history, allergies, medication history, vitals, height, weight, and blood glucose levels.
Observation & Escalation:
Observe physical, emotional, and behavioral status and immediately report changes to the RN or provider.
Lab & Specimen Collection:
Perform authorized venipuncture, capillary blood draws, point-of-care testing (urine drug screens, pregnancy tests, blood glucose), and handle biohazard packaging using proper chain-of-custody.
Medication Support:
Assist with medication reconciliation, track refills, manage prior authorizations, receive deliveries, maintain secure storage, and monitor client self-administration per policy.
RN Backup:
Assist providers during exams and telehealth visits. Serve as primary operational support during RN absences by gathering baseline data and managing client flow.
Documentation & Records:
Maintain accurate, timely entries in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) under strict HIPAA and 42 C.F.R. Part 2 confidentiality guidelines.
Clinic Operations:
Keep medication and clinical areas clean, organized, and adequately stocked; complete temperature logs, supply inventory, and biohazard disposal.
Emergency Response:
Recognize and respond to medical emergencies by activating emergency protocols, providing basic life support/CPR, calling emergency services (911), and notifying licensed staff.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
High school diploma or GED required.
Certification:
Active national MA credential required: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA-AAMA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA-NHA)
BLS/CPR:
Current CPR/BLS and First Aid certification
Phlebotomy:
Documented venipuncture and specimen collection training/competency. Preferred Qualifications 1+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant. Prior experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, residential care, primary care, or urgent care strongly preferred. Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of medical terminology, vital signs, medication safety, and infection control. Ability to recognize signs of substance withdrawal, intoxication, or medical deterioration. Familiarity with trauma-informed care and medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when documenting in EHR systems. Calm, respectful, and empathetic communication skills. Physical & Environmental Requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and sitting/computer use. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 lbs. Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, body fluids, and behavioral emergencies (PPE provided). Flexibility to work scheduled days, evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call coverage as assigned.
