Full Job Description SUMMARY:
Medical Assistants (MA) at Lynn Community Health Center (LCHC) deliver high-touch care as integral members of the integrated care team in a patient-centered health home. LCHC MA's continually embrace and adopt increasingly dynamic and complex responsibilities to meet the demands of an ever-evolving healthcare marketplace and the integration of innovation in patient care delivery. The MA will perform a variety of patient care activities as a core member of an interdisciplinary health home team. Duties include managing provider flow, rooming patients, collecting vital signs and specimens, performing point of care testing and screenings, collecting components of the patient's health history and psychosocial circumstances, preparing for patient care by recognizing needed screenings, tests, and treatments, and placing appropriate orders in the patient health record.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Optimize patient satisfaction, provider time and exam room utilization by maintaining patient flow, keeping appointments on schedule by alerting provider of patient's arrival, reviewing service delivery compared to schedule, and reminding provider of delays. Assure efficient patient visit by assuring all appropriate data, documentation, reports and forms are available to the provider prior to the visit. Obtain brief history of chief complaint/reason for visit, allergy status and other pertinent information on the appropriate EHR. Perform all vital signs, necessary screenings, measurements, and point of care testing and record results accurately on the appropriate EHR template. Prepare patient for examination by the provider, assisting as needed with undressing, gowning, draping, etc. and preparing the necessary equipment/supplies needed for the exam/procedure. Assist provider during and after the exam, including chaperoning, assisting with procedures, interpreting, labelling and sending specimens to lab, and clearing away instruments etc. Assist patient after exam as needed and clean and set up room in preparation for re-use. Perform all Point of Care Testing (POCT) competently, in accordance with Joint Commission standards and federal regulations, recording accurately and informing supervisor immediately of any errors or problems. Perform quality assurance (QA) activities in accordance with Joint Commission standards and federal regulations. Clean and soak used instruments, in preparation for sterilization. Clean and store all equipment used and promptly report any equipment problems to supervisor. Assist with patient discharge and check out, reviewing the after-visit summary, and making follow-up appointments as needed. Follow up with patients who have not attended their appointments. Accurately utilize EPM and EHR systems for scheduling, documentation, reviewing, printing and/or updating patient information etc. Assist provider and nurse with paperwork and/or phone calls as assigned. Keep exam rooms neat and stocked with necessary supplies and educational materials, monitoring supply levels and re-ordering as necessary. Attend in-service training, team and other appropriate medical, staff and health center meetings. Perform medication reconciliation. Disease Specific and Life-Cycle Responsibilities Accurately perform diagnostic tests, including NST, EKGs, audiometry, vision exams, tele dermatology photos, and spirometry. Assist specialists with all aspects of the patient visit, when assigned. For pediatric patients, perform and record head circumference, behavioral, and developmental screenings. Perform and record behavioral and mental health screenings, including tobacco, alcohol, drugs, depression, and anxiety. When assigned, family planning activities, including screening for and education about sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy avoidance. Patient Care Documents Assist with accurate complete of WIC Forms, DCF Forms, medication prior authorizations, and other clinically focused patient forms. Assist with the tracking and completion of VNA forms. Pre-Visit Preparation As a core member of a patient-centered care team, the CA will perform pre-visit planning activities according to patient's age, life cycle, risk factors, and disease to identify needed care, including Risk-based screening for HIV and HCV Cohort based screening for chlamydia, HIV, HCV Disease monitoring for asthma and diabetes Routine health maintenance including adult vaccines, cervical, breast, and colon cancer screening Disease-based health maintenance and monitoring for diabetes and HIV Adult routine and disease-based immunizations Chronic controlled substances monitoring Depression and anxiety symptom monitoring Routine pregnancy Well child behavioral, developmental, anthropometric, serological screenings As appropriate: set ups for procedures and special testing Retrieve results not yet entered in the health record Retrieve discharge summaries, if needed Retrieve newborn records, if needed Care Management Follow up with patients who do not attend appointments. As a core member of a patient-centered care team, the MA will assist with the collection of patientcare data essential for the delivery of comprehensive care and care planning, including Medical History Surgical History Family History Social History Social determinants of health
Emergency Situations:
Is aware that in order to respond promptly and appropriately to emergency situations, any staff member may be assigned duties that differ from those in the job description or may be assigned temporarily to a different location. Understands that all staff should have a Personal Emergency Plan in place to best respond to his/her job responsibilities should health center emergency arise.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent required Completion of a Medical Assistant Training program with a successfully completed externship or Completion of a Medical Assistant Training program and 6 months' experience working as a medical assistant. Medical Assistant certification from an accredited program preferred. Bi-lingual in Spanish/Khmer/ Russian with knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Exceptional attendance and a positive work attitude A desire to work as a collaborative member of a multi-disciplinary team
EXPERIENCE
Previous medical assisting experience in a community setting with demonstrated attention to detail, preferred.
TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES
Medical Assistants are assigned to a specific team but may be "floated" or re-assigned to another team to meet patient and staffing needs.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Demonstrates an understanding of customer service principles by successfully completing online Customer Service training. Utilizes the principles of customer service when interacting with patients/clients, team members and staff from other departments.
CULTURAL COMPETENCE
Demonstrates knowledge of culture by successfully completing the online training on Cultural Competence. Utilizes an appreciation of and respect for diversity when interacting with patients/clients, team members and staff from other departments. Responds appropriately or seeks support when confronted with cultural biases or conflicts.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to move around in the office, enter and retrieve data from an electronic system, operate office equipment. Ability to move tools and materials weighing less than 10 pounds from one location to another. Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions, to consider alternative and diverse perspectives, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to remain poised under all circumstances, and to interact effectively with people in a positive manner that produces confidence and trust. Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in high-pressure environments, managing multiple complex issues simultaneously while maintaining focus amid distractions and interruptions. Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment in decision-making, and perform effectively under pressure, including in emergency situations.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Respect and maintain patient confidentiality in all aspects of care including use of electronic information. The essential duties of this position may present risk of exposure to airborne infection, body fluids, and blood borne pathogens. Annual bloodborne pathogen training is required. Up to date flu immunization and annual TB screening/attestation are required. Hepatitis B vaccine and

are strongly recommended. Results of a background check inquiry must be acceptable under health center standards.
