Duties Conduct patient intake assessments, including gathering medical history and explaining procedures clearly to ensure comfort and understanding. Assist clinicians with clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, preparing exam rooms, and managing electronic health records (EHR) for accurate documentation. Measure, fit, and adjust orthotic devices based on patient needs, utilizing hand tools, power tools, and fabrication techniques. Perform ICD coding for billing purposes, ensuring all documentation aligns with medical terminology standards and insurance requirements. Educate patients on orthotic/prosthetic use, care instructions, and maintenance to promote proper handling and longevity of devices. Maintain aseptic techniques during clinical procedures to uphold safety standards and prevent infections. Communicate effectively with clients to address questions or concerns about their devices or treatment plans. Support patient care by assisting with mobility aids fitting, providing compassionate service that prioritizes patient comfort and satisfaction. Create and nurture relationships with prospects and patients to strengthen bond so they are inspired to take action and get the care they need with our help and support Email, phone, and text communication—answering inbound inquiries and proactive follow-up and tracking Scheduling patients, verifying insurance, updating medical charts Update and maintain prospect and patient database, run reports, email marketing campaigns, etc. Maintain and organize all files, documents, images/videos With direction, assist in organizing office operations and procedures Assist with creating, updating, and maintaining internal form letters, templates, and other documents required for HIPAA compliance As necessary, attend local educational classes, seminars, and meetings pertaining to MA duties Document within EMR system with appropriate guidelines Complete and manage inventory orders within the office Assist provider in medical procedures including imaging (xrays), vitals, pre-filling syringes, etc. Assist provider and patient in DME brace fittings and documentation Skills Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, orthopedics, DME (Durable Medical Equipment), orthotics, and related clinical concepts. Proficiency in intake procedures, ICD coding, EHR management, and client communication to ensure seamless patient experiences. Knowledge of aseptic techniques to maintain a sterile environment during clinical procedures. Ability to operate fabrication equipment safely while adhering to safety protocols for patient and staff protection. Excellent patient service skills with a focus on compassionate communication and education. Familiarity with basic life support (BLS) certification to respond effectively in emergency situations. Experience working within orthotics environments is highly preferred; previous fabrication shop experience is a plus. This position is full-time based in our Shelby Township office.
