Job Description:
1.Brings patients to the nursing station within fifteen minutes of their scheduled appointment taking vital signs (ht, wt, bp, p, resp, and temp) error free, and recording them in the patients EHR. Review and update allergies in EHR. 2.Obtains a brief patient history and records pertinent information in the patient's EHR. Reviews medical records and report any pertinent information to clinicians (e.g., lab, x-ray results). 3.Obtains laboratory specimens as ordered in previous office notes (where applicable) after a brief history is recorded and perform necessary testing prior to thePA/FNP/MD
seeing the patient. 4.Escorts the patient to the exam room and prepares the patient for thePA/FNP/MD
as exam rooms become available, having the patient undress appropriately for the exam (placing a clean gown on exam table when necessary). Provides privacy for the patient before and during exam. 5.Obtains lab specimens, performs blood draws, gives injections (according to standard procedures and practices); or performs procedures as ordered by the PA/FNP/MD, recording the said results into the patient's EHR in the correct place, error free. 6.Identifies emergency situations and notifies thePA/FNP/MD
immediately. 7.AssistPA/FNP/MD
in emergencies, laceration repairs, or minor surgery, as directed. 8.Be involved in on going PI activities to improve quality of care. Perform other clerical duties as needed. 9.After making the referral for patients, give clear, concise, adequate information as to the date, time, location, and preparation required. Any other information pertinent to the patient should be discussed and given to the patient prior to leaving the practice, if applicable. 10.Checks emergency medical supplies according to policy to ensure dates have not expired. Low quantity and expired medications shall be replaced by the SMH Pharmacy. 11.Provides medical education to patients as directed by thePA/FNP/MD
(i.e., reviews medication with patients and informs the providers of any medications that require refill prescriptions. 12.Assists Patient Service Specialist with appropriate scheduling for visit. 13.Encourages use of patient portal. 14.Checks inventory weekly, keeps inventory stocked, and rotates items as new inventory items come to the office. 15.Keeps exam rooms neat and stocked with supplies. Daily, ensure that exam rooms are neat before clinic opening and before a new patient is taken to the room. At the end of the day, rooms are to be checked for depleted and/or expired items. 16.Keeps drug sample area neat. Medications are to be checked for current expiration dates monthly and as needed; outdated medications are to be destroyed properly; and medications are to be rotated. Designated areas shall be locked and keys secured according to policy. 17.Prepares laboratory specimens collected daily for hospital courier pick-up by 3:00pm, or as otherwise applicable to individual center. 18.Prepare laboratory/imaging results and patient notes received from outside sources to be sent to HIM for scanning. Ensuring that thePA/FNP/MD
has reviewed, initialed, and dated the paperwork. Report any STD or communicable disease to the local Health Department (county in which patient resides), according to policy. Follow-up with patients who have abnormal lab findings. 19.Maintains proficiency in all procedures performed at the clinic, including EKGs and lab procedures. Quality controls and calibrations will be completed and maintained as directed by the supplier's manuals and hospital policy and procedures. 20.Cleans the lab area daily, using disinfectant as needed, and keeps it orderly. 21.Assists in maintaining an effective patient survey process. Actively participates in performance improvement activities to enhance the quality of care and service. Performs CLIA waivered tests. 22.Age Specific Competency:
Staff members will have knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and have the ability to meet the needs of and provide the care of these patients. The age categories to be included are: Neonatal/Infant 0- 11 months; Pediatrics 1
