Job Summary:

The role of the medical assistant is to facilitate ideal delivery of care to the patients served at Sage Neuroscience Center. This involves being part of a highly collaborative team that can work together across roles.

• Collaborative teamwork as stated above
• Facilitate patient triage for medical providers involving opening the chart, obtaining vital signs, documenting basic chart information, obtaining labs and outside clinical documents and ensuring overall patient readiness for the provider
• Responding to patient inquiries by phone and through the medical record
• Demonstrate competency to perform and understand appropriate skills in clinical and laboratory theory and procedures. These include, but are not limited to vital signs, IM and SQ injections, proper procedure for obtaining blood, urine, and saliva specimens (where needed and certified)
• Demonstrate proper phone etiquette and clinical documentation of messaging with patients
• Facilitate patient communication and education with providers and services in the clinic
• Ensure TMS treatment systems are turned on each morning and checked for proper functioning: check device, switches, cooling and filters, chair, cushions.
• Perform daily treatments TMS treatments Ensure active treatment patients have rating scales completed weekly Review scheduling to ensure follow up visits with rendering providers are scheduled every 2-3 weeks and at the end of TMS.
• Demonstrate competency with electronic health record and patient scheduling
• Demonstrate effective customer service
• Demonstrate comfortable knowledge of provider specialty (psychiatry, addictions, primary care) and associated services at Sage Neuroscience Center. (Trained within the clinical setting)
• Willingness to cover front desk duties to ensure optimal delivery of services to patients
• Participation in monthly department meetings, where operational systems are reviewed and solutions are identified to improve patient care

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Basic knowledge of medical assistant duties and obligations including, but not limited to, knowledge in clinical and laboratory procedures, anatomy, and physiology, medical terminology, dosage calculation, HIPAA, ethics, and medical office administration.
• Knowledge of disease states treated at Sage
• Knowledge of treatments and medications provided and safety parameters with them
• Understanding of spectrum of services at Sage and reasons for such services

Education and Experience:

• Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
• BLS CPR for Healthcare providers or able to obtain within 90 days of employment
• New to the field and up to 1-2 years experience in a related health profession.
• Proper OSHA certification/training maintenance

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to remain standing for more than one hour
• Abilify to lift up to 20 lbs without restriction
• Ability to type 30 wpm without restriction
• Fingernails must be short and trim (1⁄4" or less) without coloring, adhering to infection control protocols
