A Medical Assistant assists physicians and other medical specialists with routine administrative or clinical tasks. Organizes patient records, schedules appointments, and prepares medical equipment. May specialize in administrative or clinical work, or specialize in a particular area of medicine, i.e. assisting in the office of an ophthalmologist (eye specialist). Works in medical offices.

Role and Responsibilities Greet patients in the waiting area, assure patient flow runs smoothly and efficiently, escort patients to discharge counter. Obtain patient history; assess/triage patient, measure vital signs, and record information in patients chart. Explain treatment procedures and prepare patient and exam room for examination. Position instruments and equipment and hand to physician as directed. Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment after use. Administer injections, medications, eye and ear irrigations, dress/bandage wounds and incisions, start/monitor IV, draw blood and assist physician or mid-level provider with any procedures. Perform diagnostic tests including eye exams, EKG's, defibrillator, cardiac monitoring, oxygen equipment, pulse ox, peak flow and inhalation treatment equipment. Perform CLIA-waived lab tests, draw blood, and collect, label and process specimens for send-out. Perform both DOT and Non-Dot urine drug screens, using proper chain of custody; ensure preparation for pick-up and shipment to appropriate laboratory. Perform dosage calculations for administering medications. Complete medical chart to include medical services rendered, test results and supplies used by the end of the work day. Report to work on time when scheduled. Follow all policies in Employee handbook. Perform inventory count and submit on the date it is due. Perform patient call backs, arrange referrals and testing, Perform quality checks on medical equipment. Assist registration staff and perform additional clerical duties as necessary. Qualifications and Education Requirements Graduate of accredited program for Paramedic Ability to accurately read and write medical terminology BLS certification Ability to work all shifts including day, evening, holiday and weekend hours as needed. Basic computer skills Detail oriented with excellent interpersonal communication skills. Preferred Skills Two (2) years medical experience
