The instructor prepares students with the clinical, administrative, communication, and professional skills necessary to perform entry-level medical assisting duties safely and effectively in healthcare settings. The instructor creates a structured, supportive, and professional learning environment while providing students with instruction in clinical procedures, medical office operations, patient care, infection control, and healthcare professionalism. Primary Responsibilities Deliver classroom and laboratory instruction according to the school's approved Medical Assistant curriculum and course schedule. Teach students medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, basic pharmacology, and common diseases and disorders. Demonstrate and supervise proper vital-sign measurement , including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, height, weight, and oxygen saturation. Teach students proper patient identification, communication, preparation, positioning, and documentation. Demonstrate and supervise basic clinical procedures within the medical assistant scope of practice. Provide instruction in phlebotomy and specimen collection procedures when included in the approved curriculum. Teach students proper infection-control procedures, hand hygiene, PPE, OSHA-related safety practices, bloodborne pathogen precautions, and sharps safety. Provide instruction in specimen collection, labeling, handling, processing, and transportation. Teach students the fundamentals of EKG/ECG procedures , including proper patient preparation and electrode placement, when included in the curriculum. Provide instruction on assisting healthcare providers with routine examinations and clinical procedures. Teach medication terminology, medication safety, and appropriate medical assistant responsibilities related to medications. Provide instruction in administrative medical assisting, including appointment scheduling, patient intake, medical records, telephone communication, and basic healthcare documentation. Introduce students to electronic health records (EHR), HIPAA, patient confidentiality, and healthcare privacy requirements. Teach professional communication, customer service, ethics, cultural awareness, teamwork, and appropriate patient interaction. Supervise students during laboratory exercises, simulations, and hands-on skills practice. Evaluate and document students' successful completion of required clinical and administrative competencies. Administer quizzes, examinations, practical assessments, and skills evaluations. Maintain accurate student attendance, grades, competency records, and other required academic documentation. Provide remediation and additional skills practice to students who require assistance. Maintain an organized, sanitary, professional, and safe classroom and laboratory environment. Prepare students for entry-level employment and applicable national certification examinations. Maintain appropriate classroom management and enforce school policies and procedures. Participate in instructor meetings, orientations, curriculum reviews, and other school activities as required. Immediately report student injuries, exposures, safety incidents, or other concerns according to school policy. Instructor Expectations The Medical Assistant Instructor should demonstrate strong clinical knowledge, professionalism, patience, leadership, organization, and effective communication skills. The instructor is expected to serve as a professional role model and help students develop the clinical, administrative, interpersonal, and professional skills necessary to work successfully in physicians' offices, clinics, outpatient facilities, and other healthcare environments. The instructor must maintain current knowledge of medical assisting practices, infection-control procedures, workplace safety requirements, healthcare documentation practices, and applicable industry standards. Preferred Qualifications Medical Assistant Certificate or Diploma Current or applicable Medical Assistant certification , such as CMA, CCMA, RMA, or another recognized credential. Documented professional experience working as a Medical Assistant or in a related healthcare position. Knowledge of both clinical and administrative medical assisting procedures. Experience with vital signs, patient preparation, medical documentation, infection control, and routine clinical procedures. Knowledge of phlebotomy and EKG procedures when these subjects are included in the program. Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA-related safety practices, bloodborne pathogen precautions, and patient confidentiality. Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and classroom-management skills. Ability to demonstrate clinical procedures and safely supervise students during hands-on practice. Previous teaching, training, supervisory, or healthcare education experience is preferred. Position Purpose The purpose of the Medical Assistant Instructor position is to prepare students to become safe, knowledgeable, professional, and employment-ready Medical Assistants through classroom education, instructor demonstrations, supervised laboratory practice, clinical and administrative competency assessments, and career preparation.
