Profit Sharing Job Description:
Are you the person who sees the moving pieces and naturally starts organizing them? You know the schedule, remember what still needs to happen, follow up before someone has to ask, and genuinely enjoy helping a provider move through their day successfully. You can shift from welcoming a patient, to taking vitals, to following up on a referral, to answering a phone call, and somehow still remember the lab result that needs to be tracked down. If that sounds like you, keep reading. At Bridgeway Integrated Health Services, our Medical Assistants do much more than room patients or manage a schedule. You are an essential partner to our medical providers and an important part of the experience our patients and families have with BIHS. Your job is to help create an environment where our providers can spend their time doing what they do best: caring for patients.
That means anticipating needs, protecting provider time, coordinating care, communicating clearly, and making sure the details that happen before, during, and after an appointment don't get lost.
Essential Functions:
As a Medical Assistant, you will work under the supervision and licensure of a Physician or Advanced Practice Provider and provide in-person, telehealth, and telephone support to patients and the medical team.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare patients for appointments by completing intake processes, obtaining vitals and chief complaint information, reviewing required documentation, and ensuring providers have the information needed before the visit begins.
- Protect and coordinate provider schedules by understanding availability, patient needs, productivity expectations, and the priorities that allow providers to use their time effectively.
- Assist providers with examinations, procedures, treatments, and other patient care activities within the appropriate scope of the Medical Assistant role.
- Maintain accurate patient charts and documentation within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and support timely completion of encounter documentation.
- Coordinate internal and external referrals, prior authorization requirements, and follow-up activities necessary to support continuity of care.
- Communicate medication refill requests and patient concerns to the appropriate provider while ensuring time-sensitive needs are appropriately prioritized.
- Coordinate laboratory orders and results, including completing necessary follow-up and communicating information to providers according to established procedures.
- Communicate professionally with patients and families by phone, electronically, through telehealth, and in person while helping them navigate their care.
- Collaborate closely with medical providers and other BIHS departments to coordinate patient needs, scheduling, referrals, documentation, and services across the continuum of care.
- Monitor medical supplies and support inventory and restocking needs in collaboration with appropriate team members.
- Support medical initiatives, including vaccine clinics and other organizational healthcare programs, as assigned.
- Remain flexible and willing to support medical providers at different BIHS treatment locations when patient care or operational needs require it.
What Winning Looks Like:
A great day isn't simply getting through the task list. Winning is when your provider walks into an appointment prepared because you've already handled the details. Their schedule is organized. The patient's information is ready. The follow-up from yesterday didn't fall through the cracks. The family who called with a question knows someone heard them. And when something unexpected happens, you don't freeze, you communicate, prioritize, and figure out what needs to happen next.
Who You Are:
- Takes genuine satisfaction in helping other people succeed.
- Anticipates needs rather than waiting to be told what to do.
- Can manage multiple priorities without sacrificing accuracy or patient care.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, providers, and team members.
- Remains calm, positive, and solution-focused when the day doesn't go according to plan.
- Knows when to take ownership and when to ask for support.
- Is dependable and follows through on commitments.
- Cares about the details because those details ultimately affect the patient.
- Wants to be part of a team where people work together rather than saying, "That's not my job.
"
