POSITION
#363-CLS-09-26 Medical Assistant

76 per hour Position Summary The District Medical Assistant plays a vital role in keeping our students healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Working under the supervision and guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Certified School Nurse (CSN), the Medical Assistant provides basic clinical care, administers prescribed medications, maintains accurate health records, and assists in managing the daily health office operations across assigned school sites. Key Responsibilities Administer first aid, basic CPR, and emergency care to students and staff in accordance with district guidelines and state regulations. Administer daily prescribed and over-the-counter medications and perform basic clinical procedures under the delegation of the Supervising Nurse. Triage sick or injured students, assess baseline vital signs, and determine whether a student requires nursing evaluation, parent pickup, or emergency intervention. Assist in monitoring students with chronic health conditions (e.g., diabetes, asthma, severe allergies, seizure disorders). Maintain accurate, confidential student health records and document all visits, medication administrations, and health contacts in the district's electronic health record system in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA. Track immunization records, vision/hearing screenings, and health compliance documents required by state regulations. Contact parents or legal guardians regarding student illness, injury, or health updates. Maintain a clean, organized, and stocked health office; monitor supply inventory and submit restock requests as needed. Assist with state-mandated health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing, dental) by scheduling, prepping students, and recording results. Organize and prepare emergency medical packets, travel first-aid kits, and health action plans for field trips and off-site events. Collaborate with school administrators, office staff, and teachers to support student health needs while protecting student confidentiality. Qualifications & Requirements High school diploma or GED equivalent (Required). Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program (RMA, CMA, or CCMA certification required). CPR and First Aid Certification (Required). Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation (travel between district schools is required). Experience & Skills Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant; pediatric or school based experience preferred. Basic understanding of pediatric health, childhood illnesses, and emergency care. Strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on empathy, patience, and effective communication with children, parents, and school staff. Proficiency with computer databases, and basic office tools (Excel, Word, email). High level of integrity regarding student privacy and confidential record handling. Physical Requirements & Work Environment Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs independently and assist students as needed. Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling throughout the school day. Direct contact with biological samples, body fluids, and communicable diseases (appropriate personal protective equipment provided).
