The Medical Assistant maintains and manages our GI Practice's in a strong team environment and offers the highest quality of care to both patients, family members, and the community. The Medical Assistant is an integral part of the foundation at GI Associates with patients and family members looking to you for their choice of the highest quality care in GI. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provide compassionate patient centered care that meets individual needs with respect to safety and clear communication. Demonstrates an interest in understanding of GI Anatomy and Physiology, Disease Processes and GI related diagnostic procedures and treatment. Point person for prioritizing STAT, important and normal patient information/clinical results and conveys information to the appropriate staff in a timely fashion (Physician, Triage Department, Hospital Department, Co-workers, etc.) Communicates test results and instructions with patients Manages in scheduling necessary labs, endoscopy procedures, x-rays, or any other ancillary/appointments for patients, with attention to proper insurance location. Provides patient education with use of handouts, pamphlets, prep information, etc. Obtains any and all patient information (i.e.: demographic, medical, billing) for all patient services Works collaboratively with physicians, mid-levels, triage, ASC staff, Co-workers to optimize patient care Manages physician's schedule and makes changes in physician's schedule to accommodate patient care and facilitates patient flow Gathers and submits accurate information regarding hospital rounds when appropriate. Assists physician with endoscopy procedure documentation and follow-up for a positive patient experience Works together with the pre-certification team for Requests of scheduled procedures Prepares and rooms patients in clinic and work with patients on health history Facilitates harmonious work environment, whereby treating all co-workers with respect and dignity Maintains a safe work and clean working environment by adhering to infection control standards, clinic protocols, and OSHA regulations, ensuring compliance with all health and safety guidelines Completes ongoing training through an approved program for order entry All other duties as assigned Minimum requirements High School diploma or equivalent Patient-care first approach with strong attention to detail CMA certification preferred, but not required Strong communication and problem-solving skills Ability to communicate effectively with patients, family members, physicians, co-workers, and outside customers BLS/CPR certification - training available once hired Course completion within 60 days of date of hire Previous Healthcare experience preferred Previous gastroenterology experience preferred, but not required Willingness and ability to travel to other GI Associates locations as needed to support operational needs Physical & Mental Demands Able to sit, stand, walk, kneel, bend, reach and stoop throughout entire shift to accomplish tasks Able to push, pull, lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally Able to work through interruptions, managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment Frequently uses a computer for typing and EMR documentation; requires accurate and efficient data entry abilities Frequently uses the telephone to contact patients for appointment scheduling, follow-up care, test results, and other clinical communications E04JI80004vh4091lx8
