HCC Auditor/Coder Location:
Northridge, CA Schedule:
Onsite Compensation:
$25-$35/hr
Contract Duration:
6 months (potential to extend) About the Opportunity Join a respected healthcare organization as a Medical Coder (HCC Auditor/Coder) where you'll play a key role in improving the accuracy of chronic condition reporting and driving high‑quality documentation for providers. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about coding accuracy, provider education, and contributing to better patient outcomes. You'll serve as an essential member of the Finance Department, auditing medical records, supporting providers, conducting coding reviews, and ensuring proper documentation aligned with HCC standards. What You'll Do HCC Auditing & Coding Review super bills and medical records for accurate ICD, CPT, HCPCS, and HCC coding Perform ongoing audits for primary care, specialty care, mental health, inpatient, outpatient, labs, ancillary services, and pharmacy documentation Conduct both onsite provider office audits and electronic chart audits Research and resolve coding discrepancies and questions from providers Provider Education & Communication Provide education to providers and office staff on proper documentation and HCC coding practices Present audit findings and guidance in a clear, professional manner Communicate with internal departments and provider offices regarding documentation improvements Systems & Data Management Use internal software (iCode, EZCap, Access Express) to upload, audit, and track medical record data Maintain organized Excel spreadsheets to track activities and audit progress Complete scanning, faxing, copying, and documentation tasks as needed Performance & Collaboration Meet productivity and accuracy standards consistently Assist the team with projects and administrative tasks Represent the organization professionally at all times What We're Looking For Required High school diploma (or equivalent) Coding certification required (CPC, CRC, CCS, or similar) Knowledge of ICD, CPT, HCPCS, and HCC coding Strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Preferred 1+ year of experience in medical coding, billing, or claims Experience conducting HCC audits Data entry and documentation accuracy Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to interface with physicians and clinical office personnel Top Skills to Succeed in This Role HCC coding & auditing Medical billing fundamentals Data entry accuracy Problem-solving and research ability Professional communication skills Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Why You'll Love This Role Work directly with providers to positively impact documentation quality Gain hands‑on experience with risk adjustment and HCC audit processes Opportunity to learn proprietary systems and grow professionally Supportive team environment within a well‑organized Finance Department Competitive hourly pay and the chance to build high‑value skills Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Northridge, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
