Samuel Dixon Family Health Center, Inc. (SDFHC) is a mission-driven community health organization serving the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding communities. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we are committed to providing high-quality, compassionate, culturally sensitive, and accessible healthcare to individuals and families, including underserved and vulnerable populations. We are seeking an experienced, collaborative, and mission-driven Chief Medical Officer(CMO) to provide clinical leadership and help shape the future of our medical services. This is an opportunity for a physician who is passionate about developing people, building a strong and positive medical culture, improving quality, and ensuring that patients receive exceptional care. Position Summary Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Medical Officer provides executive and clinical leadership for Samuel Dixon Family Health Center's medical services and patient care programs. The CMO is responsible for building and leading a high-performing medical team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, professional growth, and patient-centered care. In partnership with the executive leadership team, medical providers, and quality and operations staff, the CMO will establish a clear vision for clinical excellence and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will serve as a mentor and resource to physicians and advanced practice providers, helping them grow professionally while promoting consistency, teamwork, and high-quality patient outcomes. The CMO will also play a critical role in advancing the organization's Quality Management Program and improving performance on key clinical quality measures, including HEDIS, STARS, Pay-for-Performance (P4P), preventive care, chronic disease management, and other value-based care initiatives. Experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center or other community-based healthcare setting is highly desirable. Essential Responsibilities Clinical Leadership & Culture Build, strengthen, and sustain a positive, collaborative, and patient-centered culture among physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical assistants, and other clinical staff. Serve as a visible, approachable, and supportive leader for the medical team. Mentor, coach, and develop medical providers to support professional growth, clinical excellence, and long-term success. Establish clear expectations for clinical performance, professionalism, productivity, quality, teamwork, and patient care. Promote a culture of accountability while creating an environment in which providers and the medical team feel supported and empowered. Foster strong communication and collaboration between medical providers assistants, behavioral health, dental, quality, operations, and administrative teams. Identify opportunities to strengthen provider engagement, retention, succession planning, and professional development. Provider Recruitment, Development & Supervision Participate in the recruitment, selection, hiring, onboarding, supervision, and evaluation of physicians and other healthcare providers. Develop and maintain an effective provider onboarding, orientation, mentoring, and professional development process. Monitor provider performance and provide timely coaching, feedback, and support. Conduct peer review and support ongoing clinical competency and performance improvement activities. Review provider credentials and assist with credentialing, privileging, and delineation of clinical privileges. Support providers in managing complex clinical cases and serve as a clinical resource when appropriate. Quality Improvement & Clinical Excellence Provide leadership for the organization's clinical Quality Management Program in collaboration with the Chief Information Officer, Quality leadership, and Operations. Establish strategies to improve performance on HEDIS, STARS, Pay-for-Performance, UDS, preventive care, chronic disease management, and other clinical quality measures. Use clinical data and performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and develop action plans. Work with providers and clinical teams to improve outcomes related to diabetes, hypertension, cancer screenings, immunizations, preventive services, and other priority measures. Promote evidence-based medicine, clinical best practices, and standardized approaches to patient care. Monitor clinical performance and quality trends and provide recommendations for corrective action or improvement. Ensure appropriate follow-up of quality, risk management, patient safety, and peer review findings. Encourage provider ownership and engagement in quality improvement initiatives. Medical & Administrative Leadership Direct and oversee patient care and clinical operations related to medical services, laboratory, x-ray, nutrition, patient education, and related community health services. Review, develop, implement, and update medical policies, procedures, protocols, and clinical guidelines. Ensure that medical services comply with applicable federal, state, local, payer, licensing, accreditation, and regulatory requirements. Work collaboratively with executive leadership on strategic planning, organizational growth, service expansion, and new clinical initiatives. Identify opportunities to improve access, efficiency, patient experience, workflow, and quality of care. Serve as a liaison between executive leadership, clinic management, and the medical staff. Represent SDFHC within the medical community and with hospitals, health plans, IPAs, community partners, and other healthcare organizations. Participate in organizational committees, leadership meetings, and strategic initiatives. Serve as an advocate for SDFHC's mission and the communities we serve. Direct Patient Care Provide high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered clinical care as needed. Optimize the health status of patients and communities served by SDFHC. Demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to the healthcare needs of underserved and culturally diverse populations. Promote patient education, preventive care, and patient engagement. Support an integrated and team-based approach to healthcare. Qualifications Required Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution. Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of California. Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine or another appropriate primary care specialty; board certification is required. Demonstrated clinical experience and progressive leadership experience. Strong clinical knowledge and the ability to evaluate, analyze, and improve healthcare delivery systems. Experience supervising, mentoring, coaching, or developing physicians and/or advanced practice providers. Demonstrated ability to build trust, strengthen teams, and create a positive and collaborative work culture. Strong understanding of clinical quality improvement, patient safety, peer review, and performance management. Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. A commitment to health equity and serving medically underserved communities. Current
BLS, ACLS, PALS
certification. Preferred Previous experience as a Medical Director, Chief Medical Officer, or other senior clinical leader. Experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), community health center, or other safety-net healthcare organization. Familiarity with HRSA Health Center Program requirements and Uniform Data System (UDS) reporting. Experience with HEDIS, STARS, Pay-for-Performance, value-based care, population health, and clinical quality measures. Experience working with Medi-Cal managed care plans, IPAs, and other healthcare partners. Experience with Electronic Health Records and the use of clinical data to drive performance improvement.
Pay:
$230,000.00 - $275,000.00 per year
