Inflammatory Bowel Disease Position Summary:
The System Medical Director - Inflammatory Bowel Disease provides clinical and administrative leadership for all inpatient and ambulatory endoscopy units across Endeavor Health. This role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of patient care, safety, quality, and efficiency in the delivery of endoscopic services. The Medical Director oversees all medical aspects of IBD operations, leads multidisciplinary collaboration, and drives systemwide performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and operational excellence. The person in the position will provide comprehensive physician services to assess, diagnose, plan and treat a wide range of patients with health issues/illness or injury within Endeavor Health facilities locations. Working in a dyad partnership with the Division Head of GI, the Medical Director plays a critical role in shaping and advancing the Endeavor Health brand.

The pay rate offered is determined within the pay range and is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to FTE, prior experience, certifications, degrees, subspecialties, projected volumes, and quality performance measures Key Responsibilities Key Responsibilities 1. Program Development and Strategic Leadership Lead the establishment and growth of the Endeavor Health IBD Center as a destination program of excellence. Develop, implement, and monitor strategic goals aligned with the Digestive Health Center and GI service line priorities. Collaborate with colorectal surgery, radiology, pathology, nutrition, psychiatry, and nursing to build an integrated multidisciplinary model. Partner with the Division Head and administrative leadership on programmatic funding, staffing, and space planning to support clinic and research expansion. Develop relationships with referring physicians, internal stakeholders, and community partners to grow referrals and retain patients within Endeavor Health. 2. Clinical Leadership and Quality Establish standardized care pathways, clinical guidelines, and quality benchmarks for IBD management across Endeavor Health NSSW. Promote utilization of advanced diagnostic tools (e.g., Intestinal Ultrasound [IUS]) and endoscopic surveillance techniques such as chromoendoscopy. Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes, reduce hospitalization rates, and optimize care transitions between inpatient and outpatient settings. Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for GI physicians, advanced practice providers, and trainees managing IBD patients. Ensure equitable access to multidisciplinary services including IBD nursing, nutrition, psychology, and social work. 3. Education, Research, and Innovation Foster an environment of education and discovery by supporting GI fellowship and resident participation in IBD clinics and conferences. Promote the development of IBD research initiatives, clinical trials, and translational collaborations in partnership with the research team. Organize at least one annual CME event or community outreach activity focused on IBD. Support innovation through training and adoption of new technologies, such as intestinal ultrasound (IUS). 4. Operations and Collaboration Collaborate with the Division Head and administrative partners to develop workflows that optimize access, efficiency, and patient experience. Work with the Administrative Director and administrative team to monitor program performance and ensure responsible resource utilization. Support staffing and process improvements including IBD RN, APP, and administrative support for prior authorizations and patient coordination. Partner with hospital leadership to identify and equip designated sites (e.g., Evanston and one additional hospital) as primary IBD program hubs.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited and recognized medical school required. Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology (ABIM or AOBIM). Valid medical license in the state of practice. Eligible for medical licensing in the state of Illinois Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
