Opportunity Overview Corewell Health is seeking an experienced and visionary Medical Director of Lung Transplantation to lead and grow our nationally recognized lung transplant program. This leadership role combines advanced clinical practice with strategic program oversight, offering the opportunity to shape the future of lung transplantation within a high-performing, multidisciplinary environment. Our lung transplant program continues to expand, delivering complex, quaternary-level care with strong clinical outcomes and a collaborative team of pulmonary, cardiothoracic, and transplant specialists Position Summary The Medical Director of Lung Transplantation provides clinical, operational, and strategic leadership for all aspects of the lung transplant program. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care across the continuum—evaluation, transplant, and post-transplant management—while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and advancing program growth. The Medical Director partners closely with surgical leadership, hospital administration, and system stakeholders to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and transplant program requirements. Key Responsibilities Provide expert clinical care in lung transplantation, including inpatient and outpatient services Oversee patient selection, transplant evaluation, and longitudinal care of transplant recipients Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including pulmonology, cardiothoracic surgery, critical care, pharmacy, and transplant coordination Program Oversight & Strategy Lead the planning, development, and growth of the lung transplant program Establish and maintain program goals, quality metrics, and performance benchmarks Drive strategic initiatives to enhance program reputation, access, and outcomes Academic & Research Engagement Participate in teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows Promote clinical research and innovation within the transplant program Engage in national transplant organizations and professional societies Team Leadership & Culture Provide leadership, mentorship, and development for physicians and APPs Foster a collaborative, high-performing multidisciplinary culture Support recruitment and retention of top clinical talent Qualifications MD or DO with board certification in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship training and significant clinical experience in Lung Transplantation Demonstrated leadership experience in a transplant program or similar complex clinical environment Strong communication, collaboration, and program development skills Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Michigan How Corewell Health cares for you Comprehensive benefits package to meet your financial, health, and work/life balance goals.
