An Emergency Medical Director within emergency medical services is a physician who provides guidance, leadership, oversight and continuous quality improvement (CQI) for the practice of local EMTs and paramedics within a predefined area. Typically board-certified in emergency medicine or pediatric emergency medicine. Generally responsible for either the creation of protocols for treatment by prehospital providers or providing leadership to the group of physicians who assist with the provision of medical oversight depending on which model of service delivery and which model of medical control are operating.

Job Summary:
The Care Manager provides care for individuals, families, aggregates of patients and for community groups. The level of responsibility of the care manager is from admission to post discharge. The care manager is prepared to function in structured and unstructured health care settings. The unstructured setting is a geographical and/or situations environment, which may not have established standards and has the potential for variations requiring independent decision making. The Care Manager directs the work of the staff nurse, unlicensed care givers and other disciplines that provide direct patient care.
