Where Mary Washington Healthcare Fredericksburg, VA, United States Salary Range (Annual Salary) $245,000 + Description Mary Washington Healthcare is seeking a Hospice & Palliative Medicine Physician to join its growing service line in Fredericksburg, Virginia. This is an opportunity for a physician who is passionate about palliative and end-of-life care, complex symptom management, and helping patients and families navigate goals-of-care and end-of-life decisions. The Opportunity In this inpatient-focused role, you will provide comprehensive palliative medicine consultations for patients with serious, advanced, life-limiting, and end-stage illnesses. You will also provide physician coverage and management for Hospice General Inpatient (GIP) patients, ensuring regulatory and hospice standards are met.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage pain and complex symptoms, including dyspnea, delirium, nausea, anxiety, depression, and fatigue, and other distressing conditions.
  • Facilitate goals-of-care, code-status, advance-care-planning, and shared-decision-making conversations with patients and families.
  • Support patients and families through serious, advanced, life-limiting, and end-stage illness and end-of-life care.
  • Providing medical oversight for Hospice GIP patients.
  • Supervise, mentor, and collaborate with Advanced Practice Providers.
  • Work closely with physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, pharmacists, therapists, and care managers.
  • Participating in interdisciplinary rounds, family meetings, ethics consultations, and care conferences.
  • Participate in quality improvement, performance improvement, regulatory compliance, and program development initiatives.
  • Serve as an expert resource regarding palliative medicine, hospice eligibility, symptom management, end-of-life care, and ethical decision-making.
Qualifications Required:
  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited residency program
  • Fellowship training in Hospice & Palliative Medicine or Board Eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
  • Expertise in symptom management, serious-illness communication, advance care planning, and end-of-life care
  • Ability to supervise and collaborate effectively with Advanced Practice Providers.
  • Current unrestricted Virginia physician license or eligible for Virginia licensure.
  • Current DEA registration
  • BLS certification
  • Board certification or board eligibility in
Hospice & Palliative Medicine Preferred:
  • Inpatient palliative care experience
  • Hospice physician, associate medical director, or hospice medical director experience
  • Experience with APP supervision
  • Experience with quality improvement, physician education, and program development
  • Hospice Medical Director Certification (HMDCB) Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary: $245,000
