Barista Team Lead / Café Manager MADE Mercantile & Cafe

• Freeport, Maine MADE Mercantile & Cafe is seeking an experienced, energetic, hands-on Barista Team Lead to help lead our growing café operation in the heart of Freeport.

This is not a "stand behind the counter and supervise" role — we are looking for someone who genuinely loves hospitality, enjoys leading by example, and thrives in a fast-paced, creative environment. Our café is part of a larger independently owned retail and community space focused on makers, artists, designers, and experiences. We are building something unique and are looking for a strong leader who wants to grow with us. Responsibilities

• Lead daily café operations and support the barista team
• Create a welcoming, positive customer experience
• Schedule, supervise, train, and motivate staff
• Participate directly in barista shifts and café service
• Assist with hiring and onboarding new employees
• Order inventory and maintain stock levels
• Monitor freshness, cleanliness, organization, and café standards
• Help create and develop seasonal menu items and specialty drinks
• Maintain smooth workflow during busy periods
• Assist ownership with improving systems and operations
• Ensure café cleanliness and food safety standards are maintained Qualifications
• Minimum 3 years experience in a leadership role
• Previous café or coffee shop management experience preferred
• Strong barista knowledge and comfort working in a busy café environment
• Experience with scheduling and staff management
• Experience ordering and maintaining inventory
• Experience developing café menu items and specials
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure
• Self-motivated, reliable, and solution-oriented
