Role:
Medical Records Specialist The Medical Records Specialist is responsible for maintaining, organizing, updating, and protecting patient medical records. This position ensures that patient information is accurate, complete, accessible to authorized personnel, and handled in accordance with HIPAA and applicable healthcare regulations. Key Responsibilities Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic and paper medical records. Review medical records for completeness, accuracy, and proper documentation. Enter, update, and verify patient information in electronic health record (EHR/EMR) systems. Scan, upload, index, and organize medical documents. Retrieve medical records for authorized healthcare providers, patients, insurance companies, and other approved parties. Process medical record requests and ensure appropriate authorization is obtained before releasing information. Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational privacy policies. Communicate with physicians, nurses, patients, insurance companies, and other departments regarding medical records. Identify missing, incomplete, or inconsistent documentation and follow up as needed. Assist with record audits and quality-control activities. Maintain accurate documentation and follow established record-retention procedures. Perform data entry and other administrative duties related to medical records. Handle requests for copies of medical records in a timely and professional manner.
