Responsibilities Accurately organize, file, and maintain comprehensive medical records in electronic health record (EHR) and electronic medical record (EMR) systems, ensuring easy retrieval and confidentiality. Review and code medical documents using ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and DRG coding standards to support billing accuracy and compliance with medical coding guidelines. Process health insurance claims by verifying patient information, applying appropriate ICD coding, CPT codes, and DRG classifications for inpatient services. Collaborate with billing departments to facilitate medical collection efforts and ensure timely revenue cycle management. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of health insurance policies, third-party billing procedures, and insurance claim processing requirements to optimize reimbursement. Assist in auditing medical records for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to regulatory standards; update records as needed. Support the use of billing software and EMR/EHR systems for efficient data entry, coding, and billing operations. Requirements Proven experience in a medical office setting with familiarity in medical records management, billing software, and EMR/EHR systems. Strong understanding of medical terminology, medical coding guidelines (ICD-9/10, CPT), DRG classification, and inpatient/outpatient coding practices. Knowledge of health insurance claim processing, third-party billing procedures, and revenue cycle management. Ability to interpret medical documentation accurately for coding purposes while adhering to compliance standards. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail; capable of managing multiple tasks efficiently. Prior experience with ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and medical collection processes is highly preferred.
