Job Description

Medical Receptionist / Insurance Verification Confidential Fort Lauderdale, FL Job Details Full-time From $17 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Paid holidays Paid time off Qualifications Spanish Health insurance verification via real-time eligibility check Medical scheduling Administrative experience High school diploma or GED Organizational skills Multi-line phone systems Full Job Description Established specialty physician practice in Fort Lauderdale, FL is seeking an experienced medical front desk professional. Our front desk is the first thing every patient experiences, and we're looking for someone who takes that seriously — a person who is warm with patients, accurate with details, and genuinely easy to work alongside. This is a real patient access role, not just a check-in desk. If you're comfortable running eligibility, reading a benefit response, and having a straightforward conversation with a patient about what they owe, you'll do well here. What you'll do Greet and check in patients, and set the tone for their visit Run insurance eligibility before the date of service and interpret what comes back — active coverage, plan type, specialist copay, deductible status Catch coverage problems before the patient is standing at the window, and get them resolved Verify HMO referral and prior authorization requirements Collect copays and outstanding balances, and explain patient responsibility clearly and kindly Keep patient charts complete and accurate: demographics, insurance, pharmacy, PCP, guarantor, referrals Answer a busy multi-line phone with patience and good scripting Schedule, confirm, and reconfirm appointments; document telephone messages for the clinical team Follow up on unarrived appointments and keep the schedule full Review incoming documents, and keep the front desk organized What we're looking for 1+ year of front desk, registration, or patient access experience in a medical office Hands-on experience running and interpreting insurance eligibility — this is essential, not a nice-to-have Comfort collecting payments and discussing balances with patients Real attention to detail; you catch your own mistakes before someone else does Someone who works well on a small team — communicates openly, helps without being asked, and keeps things professional in front of patients Ability to work independently once trained High school diploma or equivalent Nice to have Specialty practice experience Experience with a major ambulatory EMR Familiarity with South Florida HMO plans and referral requirements Bilingual English/Spanish What we offer Starting at $17.00 per hour, based on experience Paid time off and holiday pay A stable, established practice with a long history in this community Room to grow
