Role and Responsibilities The Medical Receptionist is the employee that acts as the liaison between the patients, clinic staff, physicians and referring doctors. Based on a monthly schedule, this person will rotate with the other medical receptionist between the check-in and check-out position. This person is responsible for providing superior level secretarial and reception services to the patients, staff and physicians in a respectful, kind and supportive manner. Listed below are just some of the multiple roles the medical receptionist is responsible for:
- Greet patient in a polite and courteous manner
- Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties, answering patients' questions and addressing concerns
- Maintains patients' account by obtaining and updating personal and financial information within the PM system
- Protect patient rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal information
- Notify clinic of patient's arrival via the PM system
- Obtains revenue by collecting any applicable fees from patients (co-pays, co-insurances, deductibles and/or past due balances)
- Complete insurance verifications
- Appointment confirmation calls
- Perform benefit investigations/cost estimators with the patient's insurance carrier
- Answer high volume of incoming calls professionally and maintain a response rate in accordance to policy
- Understand and respond effectively and clearly to the requests and/or concerns of the caller
- Schedule follow up appointments for patients at both our office and referring physician offices
- Document details of all patients calls and outcomes within the PM/EMR system
- Handle all incoming faxes
- Fulfill medical records requests
- Provide patient's with access to their patient e-portal
- Mark the patient as checked out within the PM system once the patient departs the office
- Maintaining office supplies and/or forms for the front office
- Receiving and conveying clear messages for staff and/or physicians
- Scanning insurance cards, forms, etc.
- Ensuring the reception, dilating, and waiting area are kept neat and clean
- Report any maintenance issues to the practice manager
- Contributes to the team by accomplishing related tasks as needed
- Maintain consistent attendance, personal appearance, punctuality and adherence to applicable health and safety procedures Qualifications and Education Requirements High school diploma or a degree in the medical field from an accredited institution is required.
Experience in the medical field is preferred. Preferred Skills Exceptional customer service skills are required. Ability to communicate in a caring and supportive manner is required. Must be able to work professionally, organized and effectively in a fast paced environment all while satisfying the needs of each patient. Must be able to work as a team. Excellent telephone etiquette and keyboard skills are required. Multi-tasking capability is a requirement.
