Job Description
NATURE OF WORK
The Emergency Department Unit Secretary provides essential clerical, communication, and administrative support to the Emergency Department team to ensure efficient patient flow and high quality patient care. This position serves as a central point of coordination for patients, families, physicians, nurses, and ancillary departments by managing patient registration, processing physician orders, maintaining medical records, facilitating communication, and supporting departmental operations. The Unit Secretary plays a vital role in creating a positive patient experience while maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with hospital policies and procedures. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Answer telephones, patient call lights, and direct communications appropriately. Assist nursing staff by processing clerical tasks and maintaining patient records. Coordinate communication with physicians, transfer centers, and ancillary departments as directed. Prepare and organize patient charts and transfer documentation. Maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital information. Assist with department supply management and restocking. Demonstrate knowledge of hospital emergency codes and procedures. Support a positive patient care environment through professional customer service and teamwork. Participate in emergency preparedness activities and departmental training. Perform other duties as assigned to support Emergency Department operations.COMPENSATION

Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.Preferred:
Previous hospital, healthcare, or medical office experience.EXPERIENCE
Preferred:
Previous clerical, customer service, or healthcare experience preferred but not required; Experience working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities preferred. SKILLS Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational and time management abilities. Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a busy Emergency Department. Ability to accurately enter and maintain patient information. Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy. Ability to work effectively with patients, physicians, nurses, and ancillary departments. Knowledge of confidentiality requirements related to protected health information. Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or emergency situations.Benefits
