Job Description

We are in search of a Full-Time Unit Secretary, 40 hours/week with an every other weekend requirement. Weekday hours 7:45 AM to 4:15 PM; Every Other Weekend hours 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Located in beautiful, historic Havre de Grace, we are a Harford County gem! This position is responsible for assisting the nursing staff on a designated unit with record maintenance, communication and administrative activities.Essential Responsibilities/Duties:
- Responsible for administrative functions of resident admissions, transfers and discharges
- Prepares charts for newly admitted residents
- Assures appropriate forms are available in resident's records
- Maintains unit inventory of forms
- Inserts laboratory reports and other documentation in the appropriate locations within residents' records
- Assists in record keeping as assigned
- Assists in preparation and distribution of memorandums and documents
- Schedules appointments for resident's diagnostic and therapeutic services as ordered
- Maintains a calendar of appointments and reminds staff accordingly
- Ensures all residents have current wristband and identifying information
- Organizes nursing station files and desk
- Maintains current roster of residents on the unit
- Maintains current listing of telephone numbers
- Responsible for distribution of mail, flowers and other items as needed
- Greets and assists visitors
- Answers telephone and directs calls as necessary
- Monitors computer communications
- Maintains staff bulletin boards
- Completes and directs requisitions for supplies, equipment and services
- Forwards closed/completed records to the Medical Records Coordinator
- Directs resident and visitor complaints to Charge Nurse
- Assists with tray and ice passes
- Assists with feeding residents after successful completion of appropriate education
- Attends In-Service training to maintain and improve competencies
- Other duties as assigned

- Promotes positive image of long-term care nursing and our facility to residents, guests, families and the community
- Protects the privacy of residents, guests and employees
- Requires excellent verbal and written communications skills, and a professional demeanor
- Projects good judgment and performs all duties satisfactorily while prioritizing projects as assigned
- Exhibits excellent customer service skills and attention to detail
- Possesses good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites
