A Medical Secretary provides secretarial work that requires specialized knowledge of medical terminology and procedures, insurance and billing processes and medical records management. Works with physicians and other clinicians. May gather intake information from patients scheduled for appointments at an office.
8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. SUMMARY Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Associates, P.C. (AAIA) has been proudly serving patients across Lincoln, Omaha, and surrounding communities for more than 50 years. Our physicians and staff are dedicated to providing the highest quality of care for individuals seeking treatment for allergies, asthma, immunologic conditions, and related health concerns. We are currently seeking a Medical Receptionist to join our Grand Island team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in administrative support to join our Grand Island team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Greet patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone Schedule and confirm patient appointments in a professional manner Check patients in and out for appointments Collect copayments and patient balances Conduct billing/insurance verification, patient demographic, record collection, and data entry Scan/file patient information into the medical record Provide patients with support and guidance as needed Interact and communicate with physicians, support staff, pharmaceutical reps, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate department operations Comply with all OSHA/HIPAA and other government regulations Miscellaneous general office duties Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION / EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education- High school diploma or equivalency required Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) qualifications are a plus Current CPR/AED certification for Healthcare Providers preferred Skills- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail Customer service Knowledge of medical terminology is desired Previous medical clinic experience in a clerical position is helpful Excellent communication Patient confidentiality EMR experience preferred Excellent patient rapport Phone Etiquette
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job will require exposure to patient elements. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
